2. Always consider listed death dates as approximate because many had to be calculated using imprecise language and unclear publication dates!

3. Question marks in the index indicate missing information. The number of question marks indicate how much important information is missing from the obituary. A lot of question marks also usually indicates it was a very short news item or is a very flowery obituary.

4. When I use the word "obituaries" I mean all of the following:

• Short News Items. Many... but not all... obituaries written 75-100 years ago were short news items such as "John Doe died last Monday at home and his funeral was Thursday."
• Death Notices. Death Notices lack most of the information about the person's life and family that Regular Obituaries contain.
• Regular Obituaries. Regular Obituaries contain information about the person's life and family that is very useful to genealogy research.
• News Obituaries. News Obituaries are about people from all walks of life. They may have made major public contributions to the community or just led interesting lives. Usually the article appears on page one of the newspaper. There may or may not also be a regular obituary on the usual obituary page.

5. Construction Note: During the on and off 15 years I spent re-indexing obituaries I spent about 1 1/2 hours a day at the public library sometimes 4, 5 or 6 days a week scrolling through the newspaper microfilms finding obituaries and then recording their information. Then I would come home and spend about another 1 1/2 hours on my computer writing the HTML code for this collected information which makes the page you see on my website. I finished re-indexing the last year on Aug 16, 2018. The total number of obituaries for all six newspapers from 1882 to 2017 was 54, 772. When you add the current year 2018 obituaries I index every day the total is over 55,000. I had to view about 575,000 newspaper pages to re-index them all.

6. Reduced Print Schedule: On May 4, 2020 the Antigo Daily Journal transitioned from an all-print six day publication to a combination print-Internet publication. All subscribers receive print editons in their mailboxes (no more carrier deliveries) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays the newspaper website at antigojournal.com is updated with important news, sport scores, pending obituaries and local items of interest.
