Mary Ada Swingley - 1908

Mary Ada Swingley was born in the town of Oregon, in Ogle County, Illinois in 1887. She was the daughter of Oscar York Swingley and Alice Lewis.

When Mary Ada was 15, her father committed suicide on the family farm. Her mother married George W. Boyce and moved the family to Washington State.

This picture was taken around 1908, shortly before her marriage to Joseph Hearn. She and Joseph lived in Eatonville, Washington, where he was a jeweler. They had one daughter, Rhoda Hearn.

In 1917, Joseph died of a goiter. Mary Ada never remarried, and died in San Anselmo, Marin County, California, in 1957.
