In the 1881 census he is aged 2 living with parents at 19 Ship and Mermaid Row

In 1891 census he is aged 12 living with his Grand parents George and Mary Seager at 74 Snowsfields Bermondsey. His Mother died 4 years earlier and his Father had remarried 1 year earlier to Louisa Davis.

The 1901 census James now calling himself William, now married and living at 9 Silvester Buildings, A Block, Bermondsey. This was on the corner of Tabard Street and Silvester Street.

James / William spent most of his married life, living apart from his wife and family often staying at Rowton House Newington Butts. Although being estranged, he would return every day to clean shoes and to clean and set the fire, he even managed to sire a few children.

James married Ellen GRAMSON, daughter of William James GRAMSON and Margaret DESMOND, on 16 Jul 1899 in St Mary Magdalene, Southwark. (Ellen GRAMSON was born on 11 Dec 1878 in Bermondsey , Southwark, Surrey and died in 1946 in Southwark.)

James gives the name of William. [All of the James Williams' within this tree went by the name William or James as and when it suited.]

On the certificate occupation given as Glazier. Ellen gives her maiden name as Gramstone. Both give the Address as 4 Trinity Place, this is Ellens family home, this is the address given on William Gramson's death certificate, dated 5th sept 1898. Some ten months earlier.

Fathers occupations are stated as William Heath (actually James) is a Tinman.
William Gramson [The name actually on the certificate is Gramstone] General Dealer.
Ellen also neglects to mention that her Dad is dead.

Witnesses are David Sullivan and Lizzy Heath.
