8th (Kings Royal Irish) Hussars
Roll of Honour 1944-1945
The information contained in this Roll of
Honour has been taken from the Regimental History "Men of Valour: the third
volume of the history of the VIII King's Royal Irish Hussars, 1927-1958";
by Olivia Fitzroy; published by Sir Geoffrey V Bates; in 1961. Dates of death
have been taken from The Commonwealth War Graves Commission online Roll of
Honour at http://www.cwgc.org,
with occasional supplements i.e.  Troop
and Squadron gleaned from other sources. I have discovered that at least in
my Uncle, George William Attwood's case, the reported and official date of death
is incorrect. He is reported to have been KIA on 13th June1944 (official
casualty letter is shown to the left) and there would appear to a significant
body of evidence which suggests that he may have died on 14th June 1944. This
may be true of other casualties and given the confusing circumstances and the
nature of The Regiments role, this may not be surprising.
