Jacob Fritz (Fretts) Died: 1855 Father: Mother: Occupation: Farmer -Landed between Port George and Slabtown Nova Scotia in or about 1783. -was said to have come from New York. -was said to be German & to speak broken english. -was said to walk with a limp. -had a brother, John, who remained in the US (New York) and took the oath of allegiance. -First wife was Elizabeth Spurr of Round Hill, married 15-Nov-1787 in Annapolis Royal, NS. -2nd wife was Ann Nancy Bent, married 05-Feb-1789. -Settled in Granville, and is included in a list of those "desirous of confirmation" in 1791at St. Luke's Church, Annapolis Royal, NS. -he later settled on the Armstrong Road on Hanley Mountain, and finally moved to Port George. -In 1792 he was listed as "ratable" in the Parish of Wilmot. -On 15-June 1796 he purchased property from Samuel Randall signing himself as "Jacob Fretts of Wilmot" -on 1 August 1800 he sold property to Richard Jaques and signed himself "Jacob Fritz" -on 22 June 1807 he was listed among the farmers of Wilmot who claimed the bounty created by the Act 46, Geo.III, for clearing and seeding lands, and was stated to have cleared 7 1/4 acres -in a deed drawn 14 November 1808, his wife is mentions as "Anna his wife" -in the baptismal records of St. Luke's they are referred to as "Jacob and Ann Fretts" -claimed to be a cart driver for the British in the Revolutionary War. |
