Mr Keener was born in Perry Township, near Mt Morris, a son of the late Robert M and Susannah A Headley Keener. He married twice. His first wife, Gaynelle Phillips Keener, died March 3, 1920. His second wife, the former Belle Huffman, whom he married Oct 24, 1921, survives.
Surviving to his first marriage are one daughter, Mrs Albert {Helen} Lemley, of Morgantown, WVa., and one son, Merrill P Keener, Jr. of Altoona. Surviving to this second marrieage are two daughters, Mrs Arthur {Alice} Wallmark, of Upper Marlboro, Md, and Miss Susannah C Keener, at home, four sons, Joseph M, of Ithaca, NY; Richard B, of Tamarack; Attorney Edison W, of Bridgeville, and Attorney Robert M of Waynesburg, 22 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a brother, Rex M of Ravenswood, WVa.
