General Notes:
Richard Collinson, the son of George and Sarah Collinson, appeared in the Caroline County court in 1787 and gave a deposition regarding the boundaries of Peter Edmondson's land in that county. Richard gave his age as "48" thus establishing his birthdate as 1739.
Just one year prior to his court appearance, he purchased 160 acres of land from Robert Sherwin, the son and heir of Stephen Sherwin. Richare pain 320 pounds for SHERWIN'S CHANCE and became a planter. Little is known about his life prior to the 13th of November 1787 when he married Penelope Bush, daughter of Andrew Bush. Penelope was surely his second wife and probably not the mother of his children.
Richard died sometime directly after this marriage as his estate inventory was filed July 30, 1788. The next of kin given were his two sisters, Mary Caulk and Regeecah Kirwan. Moses Walker was apointed administrator.
Following his death, his widow, Penelope Bush Collinson, married William HARRISON in Caroline County on the 13th of March 1790.
Richard left four children: Richard Collinson, Jr., Reuben Collinson, Henrietta Collinson, and Sarah Collinson. Peter Caulk, uncle of the orphans accepted their guardianship.
About 1803 the children of Richard sold SHERWIN'S CHANCE to Moses Walker.
