LOCKLIEAR / LOCKLAIR GENERATION 1
It is believed that STEPHEN LOCKLIER was born about 1775 in St. Matthew's Parish, Orangeburgh District, South Carolina. His will, dated 31 Mar 1834 and proved 3 Jun 1834, is recorded in the Charleston County Probate Court Records in Charleston, South Carolina in Will Book M, 1834-1839, page 42. In it he mentions, but does not name, his wife. When the will was proved, a renunciation was filed for one of the executors and SARAH LOCKLIER qualified as administratrix. She is believed to be his wife, SARAH HAMILTON, born about 1785, a daughter of JOHN HAMILTON. Also mentioned in his will are his children: MARY, HAMILTON, JOHN, STEPHEN, SARAH ANN and ANNIE CAROLINE LOCKLIER.

HAMILTON LOCKLIEAR
He married first to ELIZA [Unknown]. The name of his second wife is not known. His ancestral home was Dover Plantation at Russellville, Berkeley County, South Carolina. His probate records can be found in the Berkeley County Probate Court Records in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, in Box 15. He died intestate and the letters of administration are signed 7 Oct 1892 by HAMILTON LOCKLIEAR, probably his son. An enclosed letter, also signed by HAMILTON LOCKLIER on 20 Sep 1892 indicates that in April 1866 he paid 'direct tax' to the U. S. Government in the amount of $21.12 for property in St. Stephen's Parish, Berkeley County, South Carolina. There are many spelling variations for this name - LOCKLIEAR, LOCKLEAR, LOCKLAIR, etc. I will list them as I have found them spelled.

ROBERT HAMPTON LOCKLIEAR
He was born in 1844 in St. Stephen, Berkeley County, South Carolina, and was raised on Dover Plantation, the ancestral home of his family. He married MINNIE HUXFORD on May 3, 1867. After the death of his wife on February 11, 1897, he moved to Clinch County, Georgia, where he bought out the interest of H.J. PEAGLER in the partnership of PEAGLER and CALVITT HUXFORD in their turpentine business. CALVITT HUXFORD was a brother to his deceased wife. She was born February 9, 1848 in St. James Goose Creek Parish, South Carolina, a daughter of PETER and LYDIA ANN (CALVITT) HUXFORD, JR.
The business was located in the area known as Sandy Bottom. He suffered a loss of health in the early 1900's, and the turpentine business was sold to his son, LEWIS HAMPTON LOCKLIEAR. He died in 1910 in White Springs, Florida, and was buried next to his wife and oldest son, in the St. Stephen's Episcopal Cemetery in St. Stephen, Berkeley County, South Carolina. They had issue below.

He was born in 1869 in Berkeley County, South Carolina, and orphaned as a small boy. He is shown in the 1880 census, along with his younger brother, below, living with his older half brother, ROBERT HAMPTON LOCKLIEAR. He married ANGIE ALETHA [UNKNOWN]. They had issue below.
JOHN WOODARD LOCKLIEAR
He was born December 28, 1872 in Berkeley County, South Carolina, and orphaned as a small boy. He is show in the 1880 census, along with his younger brother, above, living with his older half brother, ROBERT HAMPTON LOCKLIEAR. He married BETTY MARIE ROWELL. He died December 20, 1951 and is buried in the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Cemetery, in St. Stephen, South Carolina. They had issue below.

LEWIS HAMPTON LOCKLIEAR
He was born January 12, 1871 in Berkeley County, South Carolina. About 1900 he moved to Clinch County, Georgia, to take over his father's turpentine business. He eventually bought out the interest of both his father and his uncle, CALVITT HUXFORD. He served at various times as Mayor of the City of Homerville, a member of the Clinch County Board of Education, and at least one term as Clinch County Representative to the State Legislature. He was a member of Cassia Lodge No. 224, F&AM, in Homerville. He married (MARTHA) MATILDA GRIFFIS, a daughter of ELIAS and CATHERINE (BAILEY) GRIFFIS. He died at his home on February 23, 1932, and is buried in the Pine Forest Cemetery in Homerville, Clinch County, Georgia. They had issue below.
