EARLY OHIO SETTLERS
Purchasers of Land in Southwestern Ohio 1800-1840
The following Cox names are extracted from the several book series called EARLY OHIO SETTLERS Compiled by Ellen T. Berry and David A. Berry. This is a book published by Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc of Baltimore MD in 1986. It has helped me to break through the brick wall of my Nichols family in Muskingum Co OH.
But back to the Coxes in Southwest Ohio.
The letter after the name of the settler designates the survey underwhich the land was sold to the settler: A was the Miami River Survey. B was the Indiana Survey. C was the land between the Miamis. D was the Symmes Purchase. E lies totally in what is now Indiana.
The From Where? column can be a bit misleading. Although it may indicate where the settler came from, it may not indicate where he came from very recently, and might only indicate that he does have some land there when in fact he never lived there at all.
The R-T-S refers to the Range-Township-Section where the land is. The wonderful maps in these books enable you to visualize pretty closely where this land was.
