LAST RITES HELD
FOR CREED REED
THURSDAY MAY 2
 
Funeral services for Creed Taylor Reed, a farmer of north of Carthage, were held at the Ostrich funeral home May 2, at 1:00 p. m.  Burial was in Camp Creek cemetery near Colmar.  Services were in charge of Rev. Howard Dickey of Browning, Ill.  Deceased was a member of the Dunkard Brethren church.
 
The son of Elijah and Sarah Reed, he was born in Floyd Co., Virginia, Feb. 28, 1874.
 
He was married to Martha Howell in Virginia, Jan. 14, 1902.  They came to Hancock county in 1907.
 
Mr. Reed fell seven weeks ago, injuring his limb, since which time he has been a patient in Graham hospital, Keokuk, where he died April 30.
 
Deceased is survived by his wife and four sons, Wm. H., Floyd B., and Johnson L., of Carthage, and Leonard C. of Plymouth.  There is also one granddaughter, Betty Marie Reed, and two sisters, Mrs. Harrison Christian, of Orange, Ore., and Mrs. Lucy Risman of Seattle, Wash.

CREED REED
PASSED AWAY
IN HOSPITAL
 
Creed Taylor Reed of Carthage, Ill., died in Graham hospital of Keokuk, Ia., at noon, Tuesday, April 30.  He was taken to the hospital March 13 for treatment of a broken hip caused by a fall on the ice while doing the evening chores at his home north of Carthage.  He was then stricken with pneumonia which caused his death.
 
Mr. Reed was a kind and loving husband and father, always jolly and cheerful to his family and friends who called on him during his illness, never complaining of his fate.  He was a kind and good patient through the seven weeks he was confined to his bed.
 
Born in Floyd County, Virginia, Feb. 28, 1874, the son of Elijah and Sarah Reed, he grew to manhood in Virginia making friends of all the neighbors and people whom he met.
 
He was united in marriage January 14, 1902 to Martha Lucinda Howell of Floyd County, Virginia.  Coming to Illinois in 1911 he spent the rest of his life as a farmer in Hancock County.
 
To this union six children were born, two of whom, Hartford and Lawrence died in infancy.
 
Surviving him are his wife and four sons, Johnson, William and Floyd of Carthage and Leonard of Plymouth, one grandchild Betty Reed, two sisters Lucy of Seattle, Wash., and Nancy Elizabeth of Orange, Oregon.  Five brothers preceded him in death.
 
He was a member or the Dunkard Brethren Church at Astoria, Ill.  He called for Elder Dickey and was anointed by him while in the hospital.
 
Brother Reed was a well known and highly respected man.  His main interest in life was his devotion to his church and family.
 
He leaves a host of friends and relatives who will miss the cheerful word he had for everyone.
 
Funeral services for the late Creed T. Reed were held Thursday at the Ostrich funeral home with the Elder Dickey officiating.  Mrs. H. R. Dickey, Gladys Dickey, Mrs. O. P. Harmon, Clara Gibble, Flora Harmon, Ella Harmon, Alice Harmon and Beulah Fitz sang three songs ''Jesus Lover of My Soul" "Nearer My God to Thee" and "When The Roll is Called".  The pallbearers were: Leslie Reed, Ernest Reed, Kyle Reed, Elbert Reed, Maurice Reed, and George King.
 
Burial was in the Camp Creek cemetery.

Notes:
 
Creed Taylor Reed is not buried in the Camp Creek cemetery.  He is buried in the Dunkard cemetery.
 
Camp Creek cemetery is not near Colmar.  It is southeast of Macomb.
