One of Roanoke's Oldest Practicing Doctors  Dies

Dr. Edgar Lee Lawrence, one of Roanoke's oldest practicing physicians, died
Saturday afternoon in a Roanoke hospital.  He was 84.

Dr. Lawrence, who resided at 2212 Broadway, S. W., had not been active  since
he was injured in a fall a few months ago.

A native of Floyd County, he taught school at Shawsville for a brief time
before entering the Medical College of Virginia.

Upon his graduation from medical school in 1900, he returned to Floyd
County, practicing there until he came to Roanoke in 1919.  As a general
practitioner, he enjoyed a large practice in Roanoke.

He was a member of the Medical Society of Virginia, the Southwest Virginia
Medical Society and the Roanoke Academy of Medicine.  He was also a member  of
Trinity Methodist Church and of several social and fraternal  organizations.

Surviving are three sons:  H.P. Lawrence, Ernest L. Lawrence and J.  Harry
Lawrence, Roanoke; a brother and two sisters: S.W. Lawrence and Mrs. C.A.
Howard, Roanoke,and Mrs. E.C. Reed, Richmond, and one grandson.

Funeral will be conducted at Oakey's Chapel at 4p.m., Monday by the Rev.
C.F. Mosely.  Interment will be in Sherwood.
