Martin Reed

Martin Reed, 88, of 2510 Kennedy Drive, East Moline, died last week in the Skilled Care Unit of Moline Public Hospital.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church, East Moline.  Burial was in Greenview Memorial Gardens, Silvis.

Visitation was from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at VanHoe Funeral Home, East Moline.  Memorials were made to the church.

Mr. Reed was born Sept. 23, 1899, in Floyd County, Va.  He married Bernice Tanner Nov. 12, 1920 in Quincy, Ill.  She died Jan. 4, 1984.

He owned a trucking business until 1941.  He then worked as a pipefitter at John Deere Harvester, East Moline, for 23 years, retiring in 1964.

He was an elder at the church for many years.

He enjoyed working on small engines.

Survivors include daughters, Maxine Brown, Cherry Valley, Calif., and Carlene Sullivan, East Moline; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Leslie, Carthage, Ill., Ernest, Lomax, Ill., Arthur, LaHarpe, Ill., and Austin, Bushnell, Ill.
