Levi Barnett

Levi Barnett. Born in 1818 in Virginia. Levi moved with his mother, father and brothers to Clinton County, Indiana around 1835. On 12 May 1842 when Levi was 24, he married Margaret Ann Thomas, in Clinton County, Indiana. She was born on 19 Sep 1825 in Indiana.

About 1855, Levi and his brother Adam moved with their families to Forest Township, Richland County Wisconsin. Levi's homestead claim was for two 40-acre parcels, one on section 15 of Forest Township, the other on section 22 , which was later sold to a J. R. Campbell. Adam claimed 120 acres on section 13. Levi's oldest son William had 40 acres on section 16.

Levi died in Richland County, Wisconsin on 25 Dec 1874 at age 56. It is believed he was buried in a small family cemetery on the Thomas farm in Forest Township, Richland County, Wisconsin.

After Levi's death, Margaret and her sons John, Jesse and Edson moved to Lake County, South Dakota to live with her other son Ephraim Jacob. Ephraim and his wife Cedelia had a homestead claim near Madison, South Dakota.

While in Lake County, she met and married George Thompson, about 1880. He was born about 1817 in Pennsylvania. Margaret, John, Jesse and Edson then lived on the Thompson farm with George and his daughter Mary.

By 1884, George and Margaret, her children Ephraim, Charles, Nancy Miranda Shaffer, John, Jesse, Edson and their families were all living on new homestead claims in LaRoche Township, Charles Mix County, South Dakota.

On 16 Mar 1901, Margaret died in Waldo, Josephine County, Oregon; she was 75. She and her husband George were then living with Edson and his family. She was buried in Laurel Cemetery, Kerby, Josephine County, Oregon. George died in 1912, and was buried in Graceland Cemetery, Madison, South Dakota, with his first wife Sarah (1820 � 1878).
