The Williams line of my ancestors starts with William Williams. He was born about 1830 in Alabama and died just after the start of the Civil War in Mississippi. William married a lady named Percilla or Percillia, who was born in 1832 in South Carolina. They had six children. William and Percilla were killed by Union troops, leaving their children as orphans. Several different families in Yalobusha and Grenada Counties took in the youngsters after this tragedy.
John James Williams was born on February 14, 1854 in Grenada, Mississippi and died November 17, 1948 at Bronte, in Coke County, Texas. After the incident, in which his parents were killed, John lived with a Grenada County, Mississippi family until he was about 17 years old. At that time he set out on horseback for Texas and arrived in Falls County Texas sometime around 1872. About 1878 he married Margaret Ella Chamberlain. She was born July 26, 1850 in Mississippi and died on December 2, 1935 at Bronte. John and "Maggie" had 5 children.
Claude Chamberlain Williams was born on October 3, 1893 at Rosebud, in Falls County, Texas and died on April 4, 1972 in Los Angeles, California. Sometime around 1910 Claude married Annie Audrey Lagrone, who was born September 1, 1894 at Cameron, Milam County, Texas and died August 27, 1978 at Cypress in Orange County, California. Claude and Annie (pictured standing) had 3 children.
James Belton Williams was born on December 6, 1913 at Bronte, Coke County, Texas and passed away on January 14, 1998 at Maxwell, in Caldwell County, Texas. He married Thelma Wilhelmena Struve on August 6, 1934 at Littlefield, Lamb County, Texas. Thelma was born on July 27, 1915 at Plainview, Hale County, Texas and passed away on May 18, 1999 in El Paso, El Paso County, Texas. "J.B." and Thelma had 5 children, all of whom are still living.
