The wills and inventories of Henry Smith and his wife Judith furnish further acquaintance with this family: Plymouth Colony Wills and Inventories, Folio 94.

The Last Will and Testament of Mr. Henery Smith of Rehoboth, deceased the 3rd of November, 1647; exhibited to the General Court holden at New Plym: the 4th of June, 1651, on the oathes of Steven Payne and Thomas Cooper.

Henry Smith b. 1588 and his first wife Judith and sons--Daniel, John and Henry and two daughters Judith and Elizabeth came to America on the DILIGENT 1638, landed in Boston, Mass. They were from Hempnell, Norfolk, Eng. He is said to have been of Hampton Hall. He m. 2nd. prob. in America, Frances Sanford. Freeman 1631; proprietor 1634; recorder of births."102 He "Henry Smith was entered as a passenger for New England in the Diligent, 1638, with his wife, three sons and two daughters (without naming either wife or children). The will supplies the deficiency. Mr. Smith was a freeman 1639, representative 1641, removed to Rehoboth 1643 and died there 1649. His will dated 3 Nov., 1647 (Inventory taken 21-10mo-1649), mentions sons Henry and Daniel, daughter Judith and brother Thomas Cooper, and appointed his wife executrix. The witnesses were Stephen Paine, Thomas Cooper and Joseph Peck.

The will of his widow, Mrs. Judith Smith, was dated 24 Oct., 1650 and named son Henry, daughter Judith, son and daughter Hunt, son John's three children, son Daniel and the three children of her son Hunt The witnesses were John Pecke and Magdalen Smith. These two wills seem to account for all the five children named by their kinsman Stanton and brought over in the Diligent; for John Smith had married and got three children, and Elizabeth was probably the wife of a (Peter?) Hunt; Henry Smith, jr., also married and had issue; while Daniel became a very important citizen, filling the offices of representative, 1672, Assistant, 1679, and Councillor in the government of New England under Sir Edmund Andros, 1687. He married, 20 Oct., 1659, Esther daughter of Francis Chickering. Thomas Cooper, of Rehoboth, witness to the will of Henry Smith and appraiser of the estate of the widow Smith, came over also in the Diligent 1638 from Old Hingham, and was doubtless a relative of Mrs. Stanton's former husband and of the "aunt Cooper" spoken of by Mr Stanton as living in Hingham."295 He "HENRY, Hingham, was from Co. Norfk. came in the Diligent 1638, with w. three s. two ds. three men and two maid serv. freem. 13 Mar. 1639, rep. 1641, rem. to Rehoboth 1643, there d. 1649. Of his will, 3 Nov. 1647 (in wh. his w. is made Extrix. and ch. Henry, Daniel and Judith, with br. Thomas Cooper are nam.) abstr. is giv. in Geneal. Reg. IV. 319; and the will of Judith, his wid. 24 Oct. 1650, abstr. on the next page, enlarges our ac- quaint. with the fam. by refer. to others; but she may have been a sec. w."61
