Daniel Beer's father was Samuel Beer. Daniel married Margaret (Maggie)
Watterson in the late 1700's.
Daniel Beer, his family, and his brother left England in the early 1800's and
settled in Northampton Co. and possibly later to Lycoming Co. Lycoming was
organized from Northumberland in 1795 and Armstrong was organized from Lycoming
in 1800.
Later, Daniel moved to Armstrong County, near Kittanning, Pa along the Allegheny
River. He settled in Valley Twp., Armstrong Co. Pa. in what is known as Cravenor
Hollow located about six and one half miles east of Kittanning and four miles
west of Rural Valley on Route 85. The old road crossed Cowanshannock Creek about
a thousand feet west of where Long Run empties into Cowanshannock Creek. At that
time, many families obtained land by staking out unowned property, build a house
on it, live on it, pay taxes for 21 years and the land was his. It wasn't
unusual for one man to own 1000 acres of land. Daniel bought land from the
Holland Land Co. for 50 cents per acre. A part of Daniel's property is still
known as the Dan Beer Hill.
