Alias

John Walter Reed

Glover Crum Hanson disappeared in June 1939.  In June 1939, John Walter Reed is provided a Social Security number in Colorado.   These 2 individuals are the same person, and were proven as such in 1991 through 1) contact with the Hanson family with pictures, and 2) discussion with John Walter Reed by Thomas Wayne Reed.   Although Glover Hanson / John Reed never provided a reason for having left his home at Havana, Illinois, he did state that he disliked practicing medicine and believed at the time he was on the verge of having a "mental breakdown".   After he left Havana, he traveled to Colorado, obtained a Social Security number, worked a few days, and then traveled back to eastern Wisconsin and worked for a couple of companies in miscellaneous positions.  From there he went south to Alabama and then to Tennessee, where he settled in Nashville.  Since he could not practice medicine under the name of John Reed, he obtained work as a truck driver, and also joined the National Guard.  After service in World War II and having married Lona Bethel Bell, he continued to drive a truck for Southeastern Truck Lines in Nashville and eventually Time DC.  Throughout his marriage to Lona Bethel Bell, she did not know of his previous marriage, medical degree, or children.
