Note from Dan Sears: Most dates are from James Estep bible, which is still preserved. James Estep was constantly moving, born in Wilkes Co, N.C., entered service in War of 1812 from Montgomery Co, Tenn (28 Jan 1814 - 10 May 1814),to St. Clair Co, Ill after discharge and married there. He came to Sangamon Co, Ill, in the spring of 1820 (Menard - Mason Hist, pg 856) and owned the land where Petersburg now stands. He sold or gave this to his father, Elijah, and moved to Baker' Prairie across the river. Moved to present Mason Co. abt 1833 and to Jasper Co, Mo. in 1839. His next move was to Davis Co, Iowa in 1844, then to Mc Donough Co, Ill. in 1846 and, finally, back to Mason Co. in 1848.
