Gilbert land in Oklahoma
from: Medford (OKLA.) Patriot Star, Thursday, January 26, 1933
GORE NEWS: Luck (sic) Maria Ford was born in Adair County, Iowa, September
28, 1856 and passed away January 21, 1933 at the family home near Wichita. She
was married to Truman H. Gilbert December 31, 1879, who survives. To this union
were born five children: four daughters, Mrs. L. M. Best, Mrs. G. W. Best,
Wakita; Mrs. H. W. Morris, of Wichita; Mrs. Grace Martling of Ponca City and one
son Ernest, of Wichita all of whom are left to mourn their loss. Mrs. Gilbert,
with her husband and family came to Oklahoma in 1893 and settled several miles
south of Wakita where she lived until she moved with her husband to Wichita in
1924.
She was a devout Christian and a tireless worker in the church as long as her
health permitted. Mrs. Gilbert passed away Saturday evening about eight o'clock
surrounded by her husband and children, following an illness of flu. Mrs. L. M.
Best spent the past week in Wichita helping care for her mother and Mrs. George
Best was called to Wichita Saturday morning. Funeral services were conducted by
Reverend Davenport, pastor of Prairie Queen chapel, of which Mrs. Gilbert was a
member. H. T. Smith went to Wichita Saturday night after the body which was
brought to Wakita and then to the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. M. Best.
