George Washington McDannald

George Washington McDannald

John and Margaret McDannald's son George was born on Mar 17, 1841 in Mt Sterling, Il. He traveled across the plains with parents and family in 1865 to Oregon. After helping his father build a cabin on Mud Creek and helping them get through their first winter, he traveled east to Laramie City, Wyoming where he went to work for the Union Pacific Roalroad until late 1868. He then returned to Illinois to spend the rest of his life.

This picture was taken in 1869 on his return to Brown County, Illinois.

George married Mary "Evaline" Caroline Stephens in Mt. Sterling, Illinois, in 1872. George and Evaline had three children, Lydia Clara, Ceily and Lawrence. Evaline passed away in 1881, at the age of 32. George would re-marry in 1996 to a "Mary Jane". Some researchers believe this is Evaline's sister, but there is no proof one way or the other.

George passed away July 25, 1908, at the age of 67, in Mt. Sterling, Il.
