• (Mystery: the 1840 Census for Bradley County, Tennessee (p. 41 on ancestry.com) shows a Fielden Bedwell as head of household containing one male of 70 and under 80, one female of 15 and under 20, and one female of 40 and under 50. Is there any connection with Caleb Bedwell of Bradley County?

1840 Census for Bradley County (p. 45 on ancestry.com) also shows a John W. Boudwell, head of household containing two males under 5, one male between 20-30, one female under 5, one female between 5-10, and one female between 20-30.

1840 Census for Bradley County (p. 61 on ancestry.com) shows a John N. Bedwell as head of household containing one male under 5, one male between 20-30, two females between 5-10, and one female between 20-30.

• 1840 Census for Bradley County (p. 61 on ancestry.com) shows a Caleb Bedwell as head of household containing one male between 10-15, one male between 30-40, and one female between 30-40.

(Right between John and Caleb is a John Ogle.)

• 1850 Census, Tennessee, BRADLEY, Roll 871 Book 1, Page 216b shows: Caleb Bedwell, 40, a farmer who owns $1500 in real estate; Mary Bedwell, 40; Herman Bedwell, 18; Amos Bedwell, male, 16; Adaline Buster, 10. Mary was born in Kentucky, the rest in Tennessee.

(Note: The index on ancestry.com says that there is a listing in Bradley County for an Amanda Bedwell. However, I went through the entire Bradley County census and could not find her. There IS an "F.S. Badwell, 29, a farmer, on page 210a, living with: Sarah, 25; John A., 3; Mary E., 2; and Sanford, born abt Aug 1850. Unknown if this is actually a Bedwell. )

• 1860 Census for Bradley County, Tennessee, shows Caleb Bedwell, 52, a Wheelwright who owns $3000 in real estate and $1000 in personal assets, as head of household with: Meary Bedwell, 57; A.R., 23, male; Lorinda A. Buster, 16; and Mahilda Bedwell, 8. All were born in Tennessee. They live next to H.T. Bedwell.

• 1870 Census for Bradley County, Tennessee, shows Caleb Bedwell, 60, a farmer, as head of household consisting of: Tressa A., 34; Amos R., 34; and Esquire, 4. He owns $1800 in property and has $800 personal assets. All were born in Tennessee.

I, CALEB BEDWELL, being of sound mind and deposeing memory but in feeble health do make and Publish this as My last Will and Testament.

First------It is My Will that My Beloved Wife, TRESSA ANN, is to have all of My personal property of every description, and she is to pay all of My just debts and funeral expense, also for erecting Tombstone to My grave & graves of My former wife and Son, A. R. BAGWELL. (Spelling as in original).

Second-----My Will is that My beloved Wife TRESSA ANN, and My son SQUIRE is to have 160 acres of land to Wit: it being the North East quarter Section Thirteen Township One square range on the West of the quarter that I now live on. I mean that My Wife TRESSA ANN shall have a lifetime interest in the land and at her death or if she should marry again then and in that event, My Will is then all of My said quarter shall go to My Son SQUIRE.

Three-----My Will is that the balance of My land to Wit; 80 acres that I bought of J. M. Miller, shall go to the heirs of my deceased son H. F. BEDWELL, by his Wife NANCY BEDWELL a widow.

Fourth-----I hereby appointe and Nominate, My administrator, and hereby authorize and empower that JOHN MOORE, or make or cause to be make the deeds and transfers that is necessary in carrying out My last Will and Testament, and I further require that the Executor and the Administrator is released from giving Bond.

Given under my hand the 23rd of May, 1881.
