"FUNERAL SERVICES FOR PIONEER TO BE HELD SUNDAY
Cornelius Bonine to be Laid to Rest Next Sunday Afternoon; Passed Away Yesterday; Was Civil War Veteran

Funeral services over the body of Cornelius Bonine, aged pioneer of Porterville, who passed away yesterday at the home of his daughter Mrs. J.K. Wymore will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock according to arrangements completed today. The services will be conducted by Rev. a former pastor of the First Christian Church. Internment will be in the Porterville Cemetery. At the time of his death Mr. Bonine lacked one month and one day of living ninety years of age. He was a native of Indiana and had lived in the Porterville district for thirty two years. Mr. Bonine had lived in a number of states during his long and eventful life. He had made his home in Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri. He moved to Porterville, California in 1892 and settled on a farm near this city. The passing of Mr. Bonine thins the ranks of Porterville Civil War Veterans. He was a member of the Porterville Fraternal organization known as the Civil War Venerables. Mr. Bonine was also very active in church affairs being an elder of the First Christian Church for many years. In addition to his host of friends he leaves two children Mrs. J.K. Wymore and W. Albert Bonine both of Porterville to mourn his loss.

Neal Cornelius Bonine bought the original ten acres of citrus on Henderson Avenue, and upon his death deeded the land to Lois and Albert Bonine. Neal was a music teacher and rode a bicycle.

Cornelius Bonine came to Nemaha County, Kansas in April of 1857. He shows up in the 1859 Census of Nemaha Township, Namaha County, Kansas on Page 2.

"MRS. BONINE PASSES AWAY AT RIPE AGE

Woman Who Was Nearly 80 Years Old Succumbs to Cancer - Came here in 1892

Mrs. Cornelius Bonine passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. J. Wymore on Belleview Avenue, about 10 o'clock this morning, death being due to a cancer which had affected her face. Had Mrs. Bonine lived until Thursday, she would have been 79 years and 6 months old. Besides her husband she leaves one daughter, Mrs. Wymore and one son W.A. Bonine, both of Porterville, to mourn her loss. Mrs. Bonine was born in Tazwell County, Illinois, January 1, 1836. She was married in 1854 to Mr. Bonine and moved to Fayette County, Iowa. In 1857 they moved to Kansas. In 1865 to Nebraska. In 1882 to Missouri and in 1892 to Porterville, California." Neal Cornelius Bonine and Mary Jane Ballard had the following children:
