William Michael Bedwell, 49, of Speedwell, Va., and formerly of Smyth County, Va., died Monday, March 1, 2004 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. He was born in Galax, Va. on January 14, 1955, was a member of the Mountain View United Methodist Church in Chilhowie, Va., and was a past employee of FedEx. He was preceded in death by his father, William Hobert Bedwell, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Linda D. Bedwell; his son, William Ryan Bedwell, both of the home; two step-daughters, Carrie J. West of Independence, Va. and Mandy L. West of Sparta, N.C.; his mother, Lillie Pearl Bedwell of Chilhowie, Va.; one brother, John E. Bedwell of Fort Chiswell, Va.; two sisters, Carol Ann Bedwell and Lisa K. Bedwell, both of Chilhowie, Va.; three grandchildren, Marlana West, Clay Vaughan and Jordan Wade; three nieces, Megan Teel, Leslie Teel and Lauren Elizabeth Bedwell; four nephews, Keith Celozzi, Dominic Celozzi, Andrew Hale and Wesley Walters; a great-niece, Sydni Teel Tuttle; two great-nephews, Jaden Hale and Jared Hale; and lots of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, including one very special friend whom he thought as a son, Shane Greer. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004 at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Graham officiating. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Lindsey Funeral Home or at the residence at any time. The family suggests that those who prefer, may make memorials to the American Cancer Society. Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, Va., is in charge of the arrangements.
