Notes
To date, we have found only two formally compiled trees outlining this family and neither have included Eliza. She was the eldest daughter, and probably the oldest child. Her death certificate documents Stephen and Mary Rebecca as her parents.
Eliza Maria Valentine
Some sources have identified Samuel as Samuel PRESCOTT. However, on his military papers, he is Samuel Preston Valentine.Because of the unusual middle name, Preston, my question has been does this possibly reflect the maiden name of one of his grandmothers?? Samuel was a Civil War Veteran. Served with Company B, 91st Illinois Infantry.
Samuel Preston Valentine
In the 1830 Washington County, Ohio census, we find Stephen and Mary Rebecca with THREE children. One is daughter, Eliza, and the other two are sons, under five years of  age. Also in the household was one other male, age 20-30, besides Stephen. A brother perhaps?
Unknown Sons
The most "far out"  misconception we've come across regarding Rebecca is that she was "on an Orphan Train". Not hardly. She shows as a member of Stephen and Mary Rebecca's family on each census from her birth until her marriage.
Rebecca Valentine
Per D.A.R. records:
Stephen Valentine born in 1758 and died in 1817.
Stephen enlisted in Col. Whiting's Albany Co. Militia and a receipt dated May 30 1784 is a certificate for service while in Col. Whiting's Albany Co. militia. According to the D.A.R. records, Stephen's wife was a sister of Pontius Hooper (Jane, depicted on the Abraham and Jane page of this website, was a sister of Pontius).
