Transcription from Esther McCord Family Record,

This source is a copy of a letter written on 20 January 1958 letter from Louise McIntyre (Newman, Illinois) to Florence Fancher (Mrs. J. K. Fancher, Bartlesville, OK). The letter is on deposit in the Leslie Dryden Genealogy Collection, Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture at Salisbury State University, Salisbury, Maryland in the notebook labeled: “DRYDEN, Shenandoah IV”, pages 79, 85-96, Leslie Dryden Genealogy Collection.
Explanation of Individuals
Leslie Powell Dryden published two books on the DRYDEN family which are the result of over 40 years of research:
A] "THE DRYDEN FAMILY and Descendents, Book I", published 1992 covers an extended DRYDEN family on Eastern Shore of Maryland who immigrated there circa 1685 from Scotland
Leslie Dryden’s research materials covering this family and allied families on the Eastern Shore are in approximately 80 large, three-ring notebooks at Nabb Center in Salisbury]
B]"THE DRYDEN FAMILY and Descendents, Book II", published 1993 [co-author, Ruth T. Dryden] covers the descendants of David Dryden Sr [1700-1772] who immigrated to Augusta Co, VA by 1742. Despite extensive efforts to prove David Sr. was connected to the Eastern Shore DRYDENs, LP Dryden couldn’t ‘prove’ the connection and published “Book II” to document DD Sr’s descendants. Leslie Dryden’s research materials covering the DRYDENs in Virginia and allied families are in 6 large, three-ring notebooks at Nabb Center in Salisbury.
In his exploration of the descendants of David Dryden Sr, who died in Augusta Co, VA between 2 June & 18 August 1772, Leslie Dryden was in contact with numerous descendants of David Sr’s son, David Dryden Jr. who was married to Barbara Berry, a daughter of Thomas Berry Sr. One of those descendants was Florence (Meyers) Fancher. Mrs. Fancher shared a great deal of information about both her DRYDEN and BERRY ancestors with Leslie Dryden. She was a descendant of Thomas Berry Sr as follows:
Thomas Berry (1718-1799)/[1] Unknown Buchanan (? - <1753)
--Barbara Berry (c1742-1811/18)/David Dryden Jr (c1736-1818)
---William Dryden (1784-1858)/Sarah Sharp Berry (1788-1874)
----Sarah Harriet Dryden (1817-1872)/William Withrow Maxwell (1817-1882)
------Martha Ann Maxwell (1848-1916)/John W. Meyers
--------Benjamin Fredric Meyers (1881-1957)/Edith Unknown
----------Florence Meyers (1906 - ?)/J. K. Fancher
In a 20 April 1959 letter to Leslie Dryden, Florence Fancher, was answering some DRYDEN questions and also sought to clear up the identity of Thomas Berry Sr’s wife. [See “Fancher – page 1.jpg” and “Fancher – page 2.jpg”] Mrs. Fancher included a portion of a 20 January 1958 letter from Louise McIntyre, Newman, Illinois. Louise McIntyre recounted how her mother’s cousin, Annettie Cooley (1865->1910), came to be in possession of an 1880 ‘copy’ of the Family Record of Esther Berry McCord, who died in Edgar County, IL in 1842[See “McIntyre – letter re ‘Esther Berry McCord Family Record.jpg”] Louise McIntyre also included the handwritten copy of the 1880 ‘copy’ of the Esther Berry McCord Family Record. [See jpg of same name.] The ‘Family Record’ shows that Thomas Berry Sr was born in Ireland in 1718 and his first wife was a BUCHANAN and his second wife was Esther WARD. Esther Berry McCord did not know the first name of her father’s first wife, but she did know which of her siblings were the children of his BUCHANAN wife.
In 1958, Louise McIntyre did not know which of Thomas Berry Sr’s children was her direct ancestor, but she knew she was a descendant of Thomas Berry Sr. Subsequent research shows Louise McIntyre as a descendant of Thomas Berry Sr as follows:
Thomas Berry (1718-1799)/[1] Unknown Buchanan (? - <1753)
--James Berry (c1740-1804/[1] Elizabeth McCutchen (c1748-1790)
---Grisal Berry (c1764-c1822)/James Maxwell (c1766-1825)
-----Melinda Berry Maxwell (1803-1882)/Rev. Jonathan Cooley (c1803-1879)
-------Mary J. Cooley (1832->1920)/William W. Young (c1826-1865/70)
---------Ruhama Young (1852-<1940 )/Thomas McIntyre (c1845-1910/20)
-----------Louise McIntyre (1885-1965)
Louise McIntyre’s “mother’s cousin,” Annettie Cooley, was a descendant of Thomas Berry Sr as follows:
Thomas Berry (1718-1799)/[1] Unknown Buchanan (? - <1753)
--James Berry (c1740-1804/[1] Elizabeth McCutchen (c1748-1790)
---Grisal Berry (c1764-c1822)/James Maxwell (c1766-1825)
-----Melinda Berry Maxwell (1803-1882)/Rev. Jonathan Cooley (c1803-1879)
-------John A. Cooley (1831-1900/10 )/Harriet Wycoff (c1841-1900/10)
---------Annettie Cooley (1865->1910 )/Daniel P. McIntyre (1858->1910)
In March 1978, Barbara Louise (McCord) Carter, a direct descendant of Esther Berry McCord, deposited “McCord Genealogy, from Scotland to Edgar County 1600s-1900s” at the Edgar County Genealogy Library, Paris, Illinois. Mrs. Carter’s papers contain the ‘Family Record’ of Esther Berry McCord which is identical to the copy obtained by Annettie Cooley in the 1880s. Mrs. Carter is a descendant of Thomas Berry Sr as follows:
Thomas Berry (1718-1799)[2] Esther Ward (c1730-1816)
--Esther Berry (1770-1842)/David McCord (1765-1827)/
---Thomas McCord (1799-1886)/Julia M. A. King (1801-1879)
----David Orestes McCord (1830-1874)/Elizabeth S. Fitch (1827-1906)
-----George Howard McCord (1858->1940 )/Anna Landes (1869->1940)
------Fitch Landis McCord (1894-1970)/Opal Copenbarger (1894-1989)
--------Barbara Louise McCord (1924 - ?)/Unknown Carter
