of Augusta, Rockbridge, and Washington
Counties of Virginia
Over the past several years we have amassed a tremendous volume of primary source material on the first five generations of the Augusta County Berrys, which we have put together in our report. Each segment of the report is divided into three parts for each individual: a summary of the individual and his or her spouse and her family; a "Timeline" section which displays the source documentation for the individual in chronological order, and the "Analysis of the Timeline" section, which provides an analytical review of each item in the timeline. We welcome all primary source documents and documented additions to ALL of the generations.

After a lengthy illness, Carol Vass passed away on 28 Nov 2018. She was a highly skilled, exhaustive, thorough and motivated researcher, known for her strict adherence to objective analysis and the other half of this Berry effort. Throughout her life, Carol was very active in genealogical research and was particularly focused on discovering the origins of her Scotch-Irish Berry family roots. Her insistence upon researching the entire family group, rather than merely her own personal lineage; her requirement to use primary source material to support her analysis and her method of acquiring all possible data before making critical assessments, resulted in the wide spread understanding within the genealogical community that her work was accurate and reliable. Between the information stored in her head and her extensive personal research files, she possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of Berry family information, and was a critical driving force in the study of that group.
