Carl Lee Bertram
CARL LEE BERTRAM was born in New Berlin, Illinois, on April 17, 1925, to George Beckham
Bertram and Sallie Mariah Marshall. He married Living.
Carl served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict with the US Navy. At one time he was stationed
aboard the USS Brown. On June 31, 1961, be was ordained as a Baptist minister. The ordination took place
at Yuma Baptist Mission in Taylor County, Kentucky. Not only was Carl a master plumber and a building
contractor, he was a Kentucky Colonel and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
The churches he served as pastor were Yuma Baptist Mission in Taylor County, New Hope Baptist Church in
Washington County, and Fellowship Baptist Church in Mercer County. These churches are in Kentucky. Carl
also was interim pastors at churches in Anderson and Boyle Counties. Among the various places he has
lived in Kentucky include Casey County, Jessamine County, Taylor County, Washington County, Scott County,
and Nelson County.
Due to his youngest daughter's asthma, Carl and and his wife moved the family from Nicholasville,
Kentucky, to Tucson, Arizona. Accompanying them was his brother, Charles William
Bertram and his family. Before leaving Nicholasville, Carl sold some property to the city with the
request that a street be named Bertram. Hence, Bertram Court was named. After about
three weeks in Tucson, they moved to Tampa, Florida. It was while they were in Florida that Carl accepted
call into the ministry. After a few months in Tampa, the move was made back to Kentucky.
Carl Lee Bertram passed away on June 17, 1991, in Chaplin, Kentucky, at the age of 66. He was buried in
Highview Cemetery in Chaplin, Kentucky, on June 18, 1991. Military rites held at graveside were conducted
by the Caswell Saufley American Legion Post No. 18 of Stanford, Kentucky.
