          Claim of Soldier for Service Pension Under Acts of July 27, 1892, and June 27, 1902.
          State of Texas
          County of Red River
          On this 8th day of May A.D. one thousand nine hundred and nine personally appeared before me, Notary Public within and for the county and State aforesaid, J D Holdaway, aged 70 years, a resident of Red River County, Rosalie, county of Red River, State of Texas, who, being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration for the purpose of obtaining pension under the acts of Congress granting pensions for service in various Indian wars of the United States from 1817-1838.
          That he served under the name of J.D. Holdaway as a Private in Captain Tom Johnson company, Colonel M.T. Johnson regiment of Texas. Volunteers; that he entered said organization at on East Front of Bay as River in ?? on or about the 20th of May 1860, and was honorably discharged at Fort Worth Texas on or about the 26th of October 1860, having served thirty days or more in the war of disturbence with the Commanche Indians in the State or Territory of Texas.
          That he also served against Frontier Mauraders before and after the above date.
          The he was not employed in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above.
          That his personal description at date of first enlistment was as follows: Height, 6 ft 1 in; complexion, light; color of eyes, blue; color of hair, brown; that his occupation was farmer; that he was born January 24th 1834 at Grayson County, Virginia.
          That his several places of residence since leaving have been as follows; Virginia 1864 and left 1880 Johnson County, Texas 1880 and left 1884 to Hill County, Texas 1884 and left 1886 ? there to Red River County Texas 1886 and has lived in Red River ever since.
          The he is married; that the maiden name of his wife, in whom he was married at Grant Virginia, on the 20th day of April 1866 was E A Perkins; that she is dead. Died June 6th 1903.
          That he was previously married to _, who_ ____ That he is not a prisioner of the United States; that he was not ? applied for pension.


          DECLARATION FOR SURVIVOR'S PENSION - INDIAN WARS
          Acts of July 27 1902, June 17 1892, May 24 1908 and March 4, 1905


          State of Texas, County of Red River.
          On this 14th day of April 1917, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the County and State aforesaid, John Dodson Holdaway, who being duly sworn by me according to law, declares that he is 83 years of age, that he was born January 13th 1834 in Independence, Grayson County, Virginia; and that he is ___ from the of Johntown in Red River County, State of Texas.

          That he is the identical person who ? at Fort Belnap in Young county, State of Texas under the name of J.D. Holdaway on the 8th of June 1860, as a private in Captain Tom Johnson's Company in Col M T Johnson's Regiment Texas Rangers and was honorably discharged Oct. 31st 1860, at Fort Worth county, Texas having served thirty days or more in the war or disturbance with or campaign agains the Commanche Indians in the State or Territory of Texas. That he also served Frontier Mauraders before and after the above date. That he was not emplyed in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above.

          JOHN DODSON HOLDAWAY son of DAVID HOLDAWAY and MARY HASH was born 12 January 1834 in Independence, Grayson County, Virginia and died 03 September 1928 in Cuthand, Red River County, Texas. He married ELVIRA ADELINE PERKINS 20 March 1867 in Grayson County, Virginia daughter of TIMOTHY FLETCHER PERKINS and ELIZABETH STURGES. She was born 26 April 1848 in Grayson County, Virgina and died 12 June 1904 in Johntown, Red River County, Texas.
