  • The 1850 Noxubee County Census shows John Deal, age 76, Planter in
Household 890. Also in the household are Frances, F, 51; Braxton,
M, 27; and Richard, M, 25. This page is very dark and difficult to
read, so some details might not be correct.

John Deal is also in the 1840 census, but I do not have the details.

The Deals had the following land in Noxubee County
    John Deal Sec 20 T13N, R18E
    Lemarcus Deal Sec 29 T13N, R18E
    Alexander Deale Sec 27, 33, 34 T14N, R19E

Information from Jeanie Sharp Nance file:
John was a private in Tucker's Regiment, South Carolina militia, War of 1812. He moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, around 1818. In 1834, he bought land in Noxubee Co., MS. John is found last in the 1850 Noxubee Co., MS Census, p. 250, living with his wife and sons Richard and Braxton. He sold his land in Noxubee Co. in 1857.

John fought in the Indian Wars, according to a statement given by his son to the 1911 Arkansas Confederate Veterans Census. I have found no record of his service there except possibly the following: "Index to service records of volunteer soldiers who served during the Florida War from the state of Alabama; John Deal, Shelley's Co., Talladega Rangers, Ala. Mil. Pvt. It was determined by the War Dept. August 9, 1894 that the organization to which this man belonged was not in the military service of the U.S. R & P 389071."

Information courtesy of Mary S. Matthews:
Prior to 1785 John Deal moved with his family to South Carolina. In 1803 he served as executor of his father's estate along with his father's wife Mary. In the War of 1812 he was a private in Tucker's Regiment, South Carolina Militia. After the final distribution of his father's estate in 1817, John Deal and his family moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. There were there by 1818 among the very early white settlers. John Deal is frequently mentioned in the Tuscaloosa County Road Book of 1818 - 1827 filling his time of the time required of all men to work on the roads.
According to the Big Creek Baptist Church records, John and Frances Deal were received by experience on December 7, 1832 and were granted a letter of dismission on February 9, 1833.
He bought property in Noxubee County, Mississippi recorded November 26, 1834. He sold this land on March 8, 1857. No further record was found of him.
