In his early years, he worked as a "contract" coal miner. However, he was seriously injured in an explosion in which his partner was killed in 1927. He spent nearly six (6) months in the hospital. Following this, he went to farming on the old family farm just outside of Pine Grove until the early 1930's. At that time, he went to work for the Highway Department until his retirement. When he and Lottie married in 1921, he bought the property where their only son was born and raised, along with the two (2) children from his first marriage. The house and land at 32 Maple Street in Pine Grove was purchased for $1,400.oo.
Cause of death was peritinitis.
Shows on the 1920 Census in Pine Grove Twp [West]. Listed as widower, and living with his parents. Also with him was his daughter, Ruth. No mention of his son, Paul. Both children being from his first wife, who died as a result of the flu epidemic.
