I made this picture in 1999 while on vacation in England. Edward Cason (?-1624) is buried in the church in Furneux Pelham, Hertfordshire in England. He was a member of the Middle Temple (lawyer) and purchased Furneux Pelham Hall in 1615. He was also an investor in the Virginia Company. His heirs owned the estate for a short while after he passed and then sold it. The dark object on the upper left of the picture is a plaque describing Edward and his tomb.
This is thought to be a picture of my great-grandfather, James Webb Cason, which was probably taken just before he died in 1910. He seems to have aged a great deal compared to the young man in the family picture below, which I think was taken around 1901-1903. In the family picture he is about 35 or 36 years old and in this picture he looks 20 years older, more like late 50s. The sad fact is he died at age 44.
He was born June 11, 1866 in Minden, Webster Parish, Lousiana. His parents were James Elijah Cason and Mary E. (McDonald) Cason. He had one brother, William Franklin Cason and one sister, Siddia Ann Permelia Cason. He was married to Eula Jency Adkins (see below) on December 8, 1887. They had 7 children including my grandfather, James Kyle Cason. James Webb Cason died April 10, 1910 in Blackburn, Louisiana.
This is a picture of my great-grandmother, Eula Jency Adkins, and her sister, Lena Adkins. Jency is on the right in the picture. Jency Adkins was born on October 12, 1866 in Haynesville, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. Her parents were Zaccheus Franklin Adkins and Mary Melissa (Mckenzie) Adkins. She married James Webb Cason (see above) on December 8, 1887. Jency Cason died on December 17, 1951 in Haynesville, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana.
Lena Adkins [on the left in the picture] was born September 22, 1877 and died on January 25, 1965 She married a Delafield.
This is a picture of my great-grandaunt, Siddia Ann Permelia Cason, and her husband, Washington Wood King. She is a sister to my great-grandfather James Webb Cason. I did not know about her husband until I was looking at the picture, turned it over and saw the writing on the back of it. I believe it was given to my great-granduncle, William Franklin Cason. The note on the back is dated Dec. 29, 1911 and it is reasonable to assume it was given to my great-granduncle shortly after that. Since the note is signed "your sister" and is dated in 1911, it could not be addressed to her other brother, James Webb Cason, because he died in 1910. Click here to see what was written on the back of the photo. Siddia died in 1923. Her husband's date of death is unknown at this time.
This is a picture of my great-granduncle, William Franklin Cason, and his wife, Eula [maiden name unknown]. William was born in 1859 in Louisiana, married Eula in 1904 and passed away in 1925. Eula was born in 1880 in Louisiana. Her date of death is unknown at this time. They lived on the road between Minden and Haynesville, Louisiana.
William F. Cason was an M.D. and, I am told, when he traveled around on his house calls he had a young boy as a frequent companion on these trips. This young boy was my grandfather James Kyle Cason. Riding around with his Uncle earned my grandfather the nickname "Dock" which stuck with him the rest of his life.
This is a picture of my great-grandfather James Webb Cason and his family. Based on a description written on the envelope containing the photo, I can identify the people with only one problem. In the picture, James Webb Cason and his wife, Eula Jency [Adkins] Cason, are seated. Eula Jency is described as holding her son Byron Franklin Cason in her lap and the boy beside her is supposed to be Elijah Orin Cason. I believe the person who wrote the description made a mistake and reversed these two boys. Byron was several years older than Orin, so I believe it is the younger brother Orin Cason seated on his mother's lap with the older brother, Byron, standing beside them. Standing beside his father, is my grandfather James Kyle Cason. The boy standing in the back is Clive Cason and the girl standing in the back is Ivey O. Cason. I think this photograph was taken between 1901 and 1903. Orin Cason was born in 1900 and the last child, Euel Adair Cason, who is not in the picture, was born in 1904.
