BARKER Thomas Blacksmith 1791: Thomas Barker, blacksmith. Born about 1791, Essex, England. The 1841 UK census lists Thomas as 50yrs, living at Cutters Green, Thaxted, Essex with his wife Rebecca 45yrs. Children George, (who was also a Journeyman Blacksmith), sons Charles, William, Rainer, Peter and daughters Ann, Lidia and Rachel. Contributor does not wish to be contacted.

CARD William Blacksmith - Journeyman 1836: William Card, blacksmith journeyman. Born 1836 Sandon, Essex,England. Married Deborah Eve 1862 at Ingatestone, Essex. By 1867 he was living in Leytonstone, Essex. By 1870 living and working in Broomfield, Essex.In 1881 census still living in Broomfield. CLARKE Richard Blacksmith 1810: Richard clarke, blacksmith. Born (date unknown )in Suffolk, England. Richard came to Sandon Essex and married Rebecca Oliver on 21st June 1810 at Baddow. CLAXTON John Blacksmith 1658: John Claxton, blacksmith. Born circa 1658, he married Elizabeth Barker (baptised 1654 at Great Baddow) in 1684 at Gt Baddow, Essex. Six children baptised at Gt Baddow 1685 to 1695. John and Elizabeth are the parents of Elizabeth Claxstone (1691) wife of John Hinton, Blacksmith. John and Elizabeth are my ancestors. CLAXTON Thomas Blacksmith 1832: Thomas Claxton, blacksmith. Born: unknown. Married at St. Nicholas' church South Ockendon, Essex on 23rd November 1832 where the records show him as being of "Stifford Parish" to Jane Elizabeth Lavender of South Ockendon. (Banns read at St Mary the Virgin and St Cedd, Stifford, Essex, 7th October 1832, 14th October 1832 and 21st October 1832 also showing Thomas "of this parish"). Their first child was born at South Ockendon on 2nd November 1833. The family moved to Canterbury, Kent, where Thomas Claxton worked as a blacksmith in Wincheap, possibly Fortune Passage, in the parish of St Mildreds. Eight further children were born but by 1849 six had died and Jane Claxton died there on 2nd June 1849. Thomas retuned with his remaining children to South Ockendon sometime prior to his death in March 1851 aged 47yrs, just days before the Census which would have given an indication as to his birth place. FREEMAN William Blacksmith 1791: William Freeman, blacksmith. Born about 1791, ?where. The 1841 UK census lists William as 50yrs, living in South Street, South Benfleet, Essex with his wife Susannah. Children: Rebecca; Martha Ann; Mary Ann; Frederick; and William aged 15 yrs (a blacksmith). Also living at this address was Eli Lingood aged 29yrs years who was a Journeyman Blacksmith. FYNN Frederick Blacksmith 1852: Frederick Fynn, blacksmith. Born about 1852, Billericay, Dunton, Essex, England. In 1875 Frederick moved to Cowper Road, Rainham, Essex. His smith was in Back lane, which I think is now called Upminster road. The 1881 UK census lists Frederick as 29yrs, living at Rainham, with wife Louisa nee Virgin 35yrs (born Ilford, Essex). Children: Emily.E. 5yrs; Clara.L. 4yrs; William.F. 2yrs; Edward 1mth infant. Louisa died in 1914 aged 70yrs and Frederick died in 1922. This is my great grandfather. Contact Bernhard by

HINTON John Blacksmith 1718: John Hinton, blacksmith. Born 1718 at Gt Baddow, Essex, England. He married Mary ? circa 1740. They had 10 children baptised 1742 to 1762 at Sandon, Essex. John died 1780 at Sandon, Mary died 1797 at Sandon. John and Mary are my ancestors. Contact Derek by.
HINTON John Blacksmith 1687: John Hinton, Blacksmith Journeyman. Born 1687 at Terling, Essex, England. John (singleman of Lt Baddow) married Elizabeth Claxstone (baptised 1691 at Great Baddow, Essex) in 1714 at Gt Baddow. John was buried in 1733 at Sandon, Essex and Elizabeth was buried there in 1741. John and Elizabeth are my ancestors. 3 children were baptised in Gt Baddow1716 to 1721. 3 Children were baptised in Sandon 1723 to 1730. From the above info I would assume that he worked in Gt Baddow from at least from 1714 to 1721 and in Sandon 1723 to 1733, he was probably a Blacksmith at Lt Baddow prior to marrying Elizabeth in 1714 but I have nothing to prove it. NICHOLS Thomas Blacksmith 1828: Thomas Nichols, born circa 1828 in Walthamstow Essex. Wife: Susan Mansfield, married on Christmas Day 1858 in Drinkstone Suffolk. Thomas was the son of James Nichols also a Blacksmith. PAIN John Blacksmith 1797: John Pain, master blacksmith. Born about 1797, North Weale, Essex, England. The 1841UK census lists john as 45yrs, a widower, living at Gullett, North Weald, Essex. Children listed: Charles 15yrs; Mary 15yrs; John 15yrs; Louisa 10yrs; Samuel 10yrs; John 5yrs; William 5yrs. In 1851 John is 54yrs, at the villages, Moreton, Essex. The 1871 UK census lists him as 23yrs, unmarried, blacksmith journeyman, lodging in Eastham Essex with blacksmith journeyman George Balls and family. The 1881 census lists him as 33yrs, at High Street, Hornchurch, Essex with wife Louisa 32yrs. Children: Amelia.L. 6yrs; Ada.E. 4yrs; Henry.G. 2yrs. Visitor: Harriet.C.Clary, 34yrs married,cheesemonger’s wife. Thomas is listed in both Essex and Somerset Blacksmiths.
PETTIT Peter Blacksmith 1815: Peter Pettit, master blacksmith. Born about 181, Broxted, North Weale, Essex, England. The 1851 UK census lists Peter as 35yrs, unmarried, lodging with blacksmith John Boatman in Debden, Essex. Between 1851 and 1861 Peter married Mary Ann Smith and they had 4 children. In 1861 Peter is 44yrs, a widower, living at Newlands Farm, Widdington with children: Willy 9yrs (born about 1852) ; Emma 7yrs (born about 1853); John 5yrs (born about 1857); Mary 3yrs (born about 1858). Also listed: house servant Martha Smith 13yrs. 1871 Census: Peter was living at Smallpieces, Woodend, Widdington with his four children: William 18yrs (blacksmith); Emma 17yrs; John 14yrs; Mary 13yrs. PETTIT William Blacksmith 1852: William Pettit, blacksmith. Born about 1852, Easton, Essex, England. See Blacksmiths of Essex for his father Peter Pettit (born about 1815)mother Mary Ann nee Smith; and siblings. William eventually took over from his father and , became the Blacksmith at Widdington.  In the 1891 census William is 38yrs; at Blacksmith Farm, Widdington with wife Emma (nee Snell) 40yrs. The 1861 UK census lists him as 30yrs, living 14 Wood Street, Sheerness, Kent, with wife Jane 23yrs and son William Thomas 4mths infant (born Sheppey, December quarter 1860, Vol: 2a Page 589). It appears Jane died approx 1862 and Thomas remarried to Frances. The 1871 census lists Thomas as 32yrs,at 25 Alma Street, Sheerness with second wife Frances.
