Stephen B. Taylor - recruiter assignment

To Stephen B. Taylor, of Baltimore City, Greetings

     Whereas by an Act of Congress, recently passed, it is made lawful for the Executive Authority of any State to send Recruiting Agents into any of the States declared to be in rebellion, except the States of Arkansas, Tennessee and Louisiana, to recruit volunteers for the Military Service of the United States, to be credited to the States so procuring such recruits.

     Be it therefore known that reposing special trust in your courage, fidelity and attachment to the State of Maryland and the United States, you are by these presents appointed a RECRUITING AGENT of this state, in and for Georgia and Alabama for the  purpose aforesaid.

     You will report at Camp Nashville, Tennessee where you will receive instructions from the Commandant of Rendezvous, and you are hereby required from time to time as such Volunteers may be procured, to make full Reports to the Adjutant General of this state, of the recruits whom you may so secure; they will be credited to the City of Baltimore.
