Reverend William Taylor - Montgomery City, Missouri

Wellsville, Missouri, March 10th 1863
Office of Provost Marshall

We the undersigned, Loyal Citizens of Montgomery City, being duly Sworn upon our oaths state we are personally acquainted with the Reverend William.

Taylor lately having banished from this State. We have known him since he took the Oath of Allegiance and from our knowledge of the man believe him to have sacredly kept his obligations.  And from that time until his banishment we have here known him to be guilty of no disloyal act or word.  So far as we know or have heard he has demeaned himself as a quiet orderly Citizen.

We believe he might be permitted to Return to his family without causing any injury to the Union Sentiment, or to the peace and quiet of the neighborhood.

Mr. Taylor has a family who are to a great extent dependent upon him for support.
