SANFORD V. TAYLOR - Affidavit 22 August 1864 This day personally appeared Sanford V. Taylor of lawful age, who, being first duly sworn upon his oath says. That he is the lawful owner of a mare of the following description: Grey color. About four years old, and about fourteen hands high. That said mare is now, by means to this affiant unknown, in charge of L. C. Wright (Citizen) and that he has never sold said mare to the United States, or to any agent of the same, nor received any compensation therefore from any persons whoever, nor has he ever parted with the title to or sold the said animal to any person or persons whatever, and that he claims the restoration of said property. Subscribed and sworn to before me, this 22nd day of August
1864 SANFORD V. TAYLOR (signature) And also at the same time came personally Leenander Sykes and John J. Cook, Privates Co. B, Arkansas Cavalry who being of lawful age and first duly sworn upon their oath, that they are acquainted with the Citizen and have heard his statement read and believe it to be true and that from their own personal knowledge that said Sanford V. Taylor as the owner of the animal in the said affidavit described, and that he has claimed, and had the possession and claimed the ownership of said animal for the space of about three months ___to about the 1st day of July 1864; that they were acquainted with the animal while in the possession of the said Sanford V. Taylor. _____ _____ and carefully noticed if also it came into the possession of L. C. Wright have no hesitation to saying it is the same animal
