Arthur Danner
     Arthur Danner, 67, of 1024 Forest Dr. died at 2:40 a.m. today in Mercy Hospital.
     A native of Portsmouth he was a former Selby Shoe Co., employe, a retied self-employed carpenter and a member of Valley United Methodist Church.
     Surviving are his wife, Helen Pollard Danner; a daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Miller of Cardington; four brothers, Harlan of 8217 Green St. Wheelersburg, Elmer of 7137 Gallia St. Sciotoville, George of Sharon, Pa. And Robert, 2204 Argonne Rd.; three sisters, Mrs. Carl Mauntel, 1808 Hutchins St., Mrs. Robert Pfeif of Syracuse, N.Y. and Miss Vivian Danner of Wheelersburg, and two grandchildren.
     Services are to be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Emirck-Scott Funeral Home with Rev. McClellan R. Nicholson officiating. Interment is to be in Mount Latham Cemetery.
     Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Harlan Danner is Dead
     WHEELERSBURG – Harlan Danner, 79 of Wheelersburg died Monday in Mercy Hospital after several months illness.
     A native of Wesleyville, Ky., he was a professional engineer and retired in 1874 as Scioto County engineer.
     Danner was a member of the National and Ohio Societies of professional engineers and was certified as both a civil and structural engineer. He was a registered professional surveyor and electrical engineer.
     He received his engineering degree at the University of Cincinnati an served as a civil engineer with the Protective Construction Union of the U.S Bureau of Public Buildings. He was a former bridge and road designer with the Ohio State Department of Highways.
     Danner was active in Girl Scouts and helped with area churches and organizations as an engineer. He assisted in the design and installation of electrical requirements for Scioto County Airport.
     Danner was a member of Aurora Lodge of Masons and other Masonic bodies and was preceded in death by his wife Ruey Hughes Danner in 1942.
     Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Carver, 967 Wilson Ave. Sciotodale; Three brothers, George of Sharon, Pa., Elmer 7137 Gallia St. Sciotoville and Robert 1717 Poplar St. Portsmouth; a sister Mrs. Mabel Pheif of Fresno Calif; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
     Services are planned Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Harrison Funeral Home with Rev. William Turner officiating and burial in Wheelersburg Cemetery.
     Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 10, Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. and one hour before the service Thursday.
     Masonic services are to be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Woman, 80, dies; report is awaited
     Helen Pauline Danner, 80, of Portsmouth, died Tuesday at Scioto Memorial Hospital.
     An autopsy was performed in Hamilton County and Dr. Thomas Morris, Scioto County coroner, is awaiting a report on the cause of death.
     According to Portsmouth police, the woman was tied up during a burglary at her residence Feb. 2. Police said there was no indication that the woman had been injured during the incident.
     A native of Buchanon in Pike County, she attended Temple Baptist Church.
     Preceded in death by her husband, Nov. 2, 1970, she is survived by a daughter, Sylvia Miller of Cardington; a brother, Robert Pollard of Chillicothe; a sister, Irma Moats of Waverly; and two granddaughters.
     Service is 10 a.m. Friday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home, with The Rev. John Gowdy officiating, and burial in Mt. Latham Cemetery at Buchanon.
     Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 tonight.

John Wesley Danner
    
John Wesley Danner, 73, died at 9:15 a.m. today at his residence, 1527 Ninth st.
     He was born at Wesleyville, in Carter Co., Ky., Feb. 12, 1875.
     He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maggie N. Danner, and the following children: Harlan of Wheelersburg, Arthur and Robert of Portsmouth, Elmer of Egbert Stop, George of Schenectady, N.Y., Vivian at home, Mrs. Mabel Pfiel of Delmar, N.Y. and Mrs. Edna Mauntel, 1729 Seventh st.
     He also leaves four brother, Noah of Morehead, Walter and Daniel of Wesleyville and Frank of Portsmouth,; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Parrish of St. Louis and Mrs. Teressie William of Newberry, Mich.
     Mr. Danner was a member of Temple Baptist church. The pastor, Rev. E. V. Howell will conduct last rites Friday at 10 a.m. at Eric funeral home. Burial will follow in Memorial park cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home.

Mrs. Maggie Nettie Danner
    
Mrs. Maggie Nettie Danner, 70, died at 7:45 a.m. today in Mercy hospital following a major operation. She was the widow of John Wesley Danner who passed away two weeks ago, on Apr. 13.
     Mrs. Danner who resided at 1527 Ninth st. was born Sept. 23, 1877 in Lewis co., Ky., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Stamper.
     Surviving are the following children: Harlan Danner of Wheelersburg, Arthur Danner of Scioto trail, Elmer Danner of Egbert Stop, George Danner of Schenectady, N.Y., Robert Danner, 1518 Jackson st., Miss Vivian Danner, 1527 Ninth st., Mrs. Mabel Pfief of Delmar, N.Y. and Mrs. Edna Mauntel, 1729 Seventh st.; three brothers, Murray Stamper of Tacoma Wash, Commodore Stamper and Joseph Stamper and a sister, Mrs. Lena Utt of Lewis co., Ky.
     Funeral Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. with Rev. O.J. Croy officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery under direction of Emrick funeral home. The body is at the funeral home.

Mrs. Harlan Danner
     Mrs. Ruie Danner, 41, wife of Harland Danner of Green street, Wheelersburg, died at 2:30 a. m. today at her home after an extended illness of the last eight years. Her condition had been [unreadable] the last year and death was attributed to complications.
     Mrs. Danner was born at Paintsville, Ky. on April 19, 1901, a daughter of Frank and Sarah Mehan Brown. In 1919 she married Jesse Hughes, who preceded her in death. She was married in 1933 to Mr. Danner.
     Surviving are her husband, the two children by the former marriage, Jesse Hughes Jr. and Mildred Hughes, both at home. She also leaves a grandson, Jesse Earl Hughes and a half-brother, Hobart Porter of Covington.
     Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Wheelersburg Baptist church, with Rev. John Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Wheelersburg cemetery under the direction of McCurdy and Scott.

Miss Vivian Danner, 67, of Wheelersburg, was dead on arrival at 2:05 p.m. Friday at Mercy Hospital.
     The Clermont County native is survived by four brothers, Harland of Wheelersburg, with whom she lived, Elmer, 7137, Gallia St., Sciotoville, Robert, 2118 Grandview Ave., and George of Sharon, Penn.; and two sisters, Mrs. Edna Mauntel, 1808 Hutchins St. and Mrs. Robert Pfief of Syracuse, N.Y.
     Rev. Richard Wilburn is to conduct services at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Harrison Funeral Home in Wheelersburg. Burial is to be in Wheelersburg Cemetery.

Greenup, Ky. – Mrs. Hannah Darnell, 90, of Lloyd died at 11 a.m. Wednesday after an extended illness.
     She was a Greenup County native and member of Rush Chapter, Eastern Star and Brushart Christian Church.
     Her husband Henry Darnell died in 1953.
     Survivors include four sons, Jim Darnell of Lloyd, Sam of Haverhill, Ohio, Ellis of Greenup and Dennis of Wheelersburg, Ohio; two brothers, Morris Smith of Leatherwood Creek, and Lewis Smith of Wheelersburg, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Bennett, Mrs. Emma Bear and Mrs. Lizzie Billups, all of Portsmouth, Ohio; 18 grandchildren, 41 great-great-grandchildren (sic., great-grandchildren) and one great-great grandchild.
     Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brick Union Christian Church with burial in Brick Union Cemetery.

     Troy, Ohio – Lola Smith Darnell, 74, of Troy, formerly of South Shore, died at 3:40 a.m. Sunday, July 15, at her home following a long illness,
     Mrs. Darnell was born April 4, 1910, in Greenup County, a daughter of the late Dembo and Lou Gifford Smith. Her husband, Walter Darnell, died in 1970.
      Surviving are three sons, Walter Darnell Jr. of Greenup, Ralph Darnell of Flatwoods and Lowell Darnell of Sciototville, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Thelma Cooper of South Shore, Mrs. Juanita McGuire of Tipp City, Ohio and the Rev. Delores Melvin of Greenup; a brother, Ballard Sith (sic.; Smith) of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Adams of West Portsmouth, Ohio, and Mrs. Violet Marbaugh of Lakeland, Fla., 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 18, at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore by the Rev. Harley Johnson and elder Ernest Burton. Burial followed in Brick Union Cemetery in Greenup.

Raymond V. Darnell
     Raymond Virgil Darnell, 69, of Lebanon, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at his home.
     He was born on March 19, 1934, in Greenup County, Ky., to Henry H. and Neva (Bailey) Darnell. He was a U.S. Marine veteran serving in Korea. A graduate of Morehead State University, Mr. Darnell worked for the C&O Railroad in Raceland, Ky., for several years before accepting his first teaching position. He retired from Middletown City Schools in 1986 after 16 years as an educator.
     He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewnettie (Munn) Darnell.
     Survivors include two sons, Michael Raymond Darnell of Stafford, Va., and Phillip Ray Darnell of Manchester, Ohio; a daughter, Amy Lynn Darnell of Carbondale, Ill.; a brother, John H. Darnell of Russell, Ky.; two sisters, Hazel Darnell Van Bibber of Brushy, Ky., and Carolyn Darnell Malik of Chico, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew and Raymond Darnell.
     ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 3, with funeral services on Friday, April 4, at 10 a.m.— all at Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home in Lebanon. Interment will follow at Heritage Hills Memory Gardens.

     Samuel Thomas Darnell, 70, Ironton Route 2, died Friday at Mercy Hospital.
     A York, Ky. native he was a retired operator for Armco Steel and was a Kentucky Colonel.
     Survivors include his wife, Bernice Bradley Darnell; four sons, Curtis, Samuel Jr. and Gary, all of Ironton Rt. 2, and Michael of Franklin Furnace; a brother, Ellis Darnell of Bellefonte, Ky., and 13 grandchildren.
     Services are planned at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ohio Furnace Enterprise Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with the Rev. Roger Lavender and the Rev. Leslie Adkins officiating and interment in Memorial Burial Park at Wheelersburg.
     Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Tracy Brammer Funeral Home in Ironton. The body will lie in state one hour before services Tuesday at the church.

     Walter A. Darnell, 69, of South Shore, died Wednesday at home after an illness of several months.
     A native of Greenup County, he was a retired Norfolk & Western Railway empolye.

     Thama Darnstaedt, 78, of Virginia Beach, Va., a former Portsmouth resident, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001 at Virginia Beach.
     She was born Oct. 23, 1922, at Portsmouth, daughter of the late Elza and Minnie Parsons Cooper. She was preceded in death by her husband Ervin Darnstaedt.
     Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Dann and Nancy Darnstaedt of Kingston, New Hampshire, daughter, Gloria Dee of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Jason and Christine Darnsteadt; one brother, John Cooper of Portsmouth.
     She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Elza Cooper Jr. and Estle Cooper; and two sisters, Cleo Barb and Betty Sanders.
     Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Ron Pickel officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Melcher Funeral Home in Portsmouth.

     Death at 3:30 Monday morning claimed Mrs. Nancy Davis at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Everett Hughes, 2320 Eighth street. Pneumonia, with which she was a sufferer for some time, was responsible for the death. Mrs. Davis was 68 years of age and had been a widow for the past twelve years. The remains will be take to Friendship Wednesday for burial.

     Nancy Marylee Butler Davis, age 59, of Muncie, Indiana passed away Jan. 21, 2004, of an extended illness, at the Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.
     Born August 13, 1944 at Fitch, Kentucky to Raymond E. Butler and Stella Mae Edington Butler of Vanceburg, Kentucky.
     Surviving are: her husband of 30 years, Stephen G. Davis of Muncie, Indiana.
     Brothers, George, Donnie and Duane Butler, all of Vanceburg, Kentucky. Sisters, Carolyn Hardeman, Rita Stone, of Vanceburg, Kentucky, Christy Click of Galion, Ohio.
     Also survived by her step-mother, Lula Butler, several neices, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.
     Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her mother, Stella Mae Edington Butler and one brother.
[Funeral was conducted at the Independent Church of Christ, Laurel, Lewis Co., KY at 1.p.m, Saturday, January 24, 2004, with Rev. Ronnie Enix and Rev. Bob Buckler. Burial was in the Smith Gilliam Cemetery in Lewis Co., KY.

Arthur Woman had 53 grandchildren
     Harriett Elizabeth Jordan [Day], daughter of Washington and Perlitha [Setters] Jordan was born in Carter County, Kentucky, April 13, 1844.  She parted this life on March 9, 1926 at the home of her son, Albert Day in Arthur, Illinois at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 26 days.
     She was one of a family of six children, two of whom survive her, Mr. Leander Setters of Jolton, Tenn. and Mrs. Sue Carrington of Marshall, Tenn. Her parents and three sisters and one brother preceded her in death a number of years ago.
     At the tender age of twelve years she was united with the Christian Church and remained a devout Christian until her death.  At the age of 16 she was united in marriage to Daniel Day of Kentucky, and to this union were born twelve children, Joseph, Net, Tresa, and John preceded her in death.  The remaining children to mourn her departure are: Allen of Findlay, Illinois, Mrs. Eliza Williams of East St. Louis, Illinois, Mrs. Lydia Wylie of Ville Grove, Illinois, Albert, Charles, Mrs. Ollie Keeney, Mrs. Alice Moore, of Arthur, Illinois and James of Champaign, Illinois; 53 grand children also survive her and many friends.

Rev. Father Aloysius Delabar
    
John M. Delabar of 1555 Seventh street, received a telegram from Asheville, N. C. today conveying the sad news of the death of his brother, Rev. Aloysius Delabar which occurred at the St. Joseph hospital at Asheville, N. C. The body was shipped to the St. Leo Military College at St. Leo, Florida for burial.
     Since graduating from St. Leo’s Military College some years ago, Father Delabar had held the position of instructor in the college and also looked after several missions near that place. Father Delabar had been ill for some time with lung trouble and had spent the past year at Asheville in the hope of recovering his health, and had almost recovered when he was stricken with Spanish influenza which caused his death. Father Delabar is a former Scioto county boy, having spent most of his life near Wheelersburg. Since locating in the South he spent most of his vacations in this city and during the absence of Rev. J. E. McGuirk he acted as substitute pastor of Holy Redeemer church. He was a brilliant young priest with a promising future, and his passing away will cause genuine sorrow to all who knew him.

Aunt Carrie" Delabar, 86, Died Last Night After Brief Illness
     Miss Caroline Delabar passed away last night at the residence of the Misses Schachleiters on Vernon Street Following an illness of only a few days.
     "Aunt Carrie" as she was known to her many friends and admirers was 86 years of age. She was born May 23, 1847 on Lick Run, Scioto Co., Ohio and has been a resident of this city since early girlhood when she came to live with her sister the late Mrs. G. W. Schlachleiter and for many years was prominently connected with the Schachleiter Restaurant.
     "Aunt Carrie" was a favorite of both the young and old. Her sunny disposition and sterling qualities made her a beloved friend and associate. Her death will bring sorrow to many hearts of her life. Friends who called to see her were reminded by her of incidents of years ago and of the days when there were only a few homes in Ironton.
     The following relatives survive: two sisters, Mrs. John Heitman of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. John Heffner of Wheelersburg, O., four nieces, Mrs. Charles Gloeckner of Portsmouth, O., Misses Anna Georgine and Katherine Schachleiter; Nephews, William Schachleiter of Chicago, Ill, and the late Frank Schachleiter of Little Rock, Ark., and the late John L. Schachleiter of this city.
     "Aunt Carrie" was a life-long member of the St. Joseph Church and was a devout Catholic. Funeral services will take place Tuesday morning at the St. Joseph Church at 9 o'clock under the direction of the O'Keefe undertaking establishment. Father F. W. Gloeckner, officiating at the Requiem Mass.

     Herman "Ed" Delabar, 78, of Woodlawn Avenue, Sciotoville, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital.
     He was a retired employee with 47 years of service at the former Empire Detroit Steel Corp., and was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church.
     Surviving are his wife, Edna Louise Essman Delabar; a son Robert L. of Millwood W. Va.; four daughters, Mrs. Clayton (Jean) Wheeler, Mrs. Russell (Dorothy) Collett and Mrs. Mike (Martha) Kline, all of Wheelersburg, and Mrs. Monty (Mary) Smith of Sciotoville; a sister Mrs. Gertrude Sommer of Wheelersburg; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
     Funeral service is planned at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. William Patterson and the Rev. Donald Maroon officiating, and interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.

     Survivors include his wife, Lou Dawson Delabar; four sons, Phillip of New Boston, Stephen of Sciotoville, Robert K. of Portsmouth and Timothy serving with the Navy in Lamcore, Calif; four daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Kathi) Slye and Mrs. James (Mary Lee) Smalley, both of Lucasville Rt. 1; Mrs. Thomas (Betty) Roth of Portsmouth; three brothers, Roger of Dayton, Robert A. of Portsmouth and John of McDermott Rt. 2 a sister, Mrs. Mack (Mary) Wamsley of Otway; 21 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

     The Angel of Death Last night relieved the sufferings of Mrs. G. W. Schachleiter, relict of the late Col. George Schachleiter, at the home at Third and Vernon streets. Death occurred at 8:15 o'clock and terminated an illness that covered a three-year period. Her demise closed the career of one of Ironton's pioneer and most beloved residents. She has a legion of friends who join in extending sympathy to the members of the bereaved family. It was recognized some time ago that Mrs. Schachleiter could not recover from the illness which she bore with fortitude and attempted to make lighter the burden for the loving hands and tender hearts that ministered to her throughout her long illness. She was past eighty years of age and had spent the greater part of that time in Ironton. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago, but the following seven children three sons and four daughters survive.
     Frank of Little Rock, Ark; William of Chicago; John L. of this city; Mrs. James Brannigan of this city; Mrs. Fannie Gloeckner of Portsmouth and Misses Anna and Katherine at home. One sister Mrs. Carrie Delabar, who has been with the deceased during her illness also survives.
     The deceased was a devoted member of the St. Joseph's Catholic church of this city, at which church the funeral will be conducted, although no definite funeral arrangements have as yet been made.

Phillip Edward Delabar, 57, of New Boston, died Tuesday March 2, 1993 at his residence.
     Born Sept. 7, 1935 in Portsmouth, a son of Lou Dawson Delabar of McDermott, and the late Joseph Delabar, he was a letter carrier for the U.S. Post office, a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and a 1953 graduate of Notre Dame High School. He served two years in the U. S. Army, was a former employee of Empire Detroit Steel, a former member of the Silver Eagles Archery Club, a member of the Ohio Valley Coin Club, National Riffle Association and National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 184.
     Survivors also include his wife, Christine Hess Delabar, who he married Feb. 9, 1968; a son Gene Walters of Columbus; a daughter, Terri Will of Wheelersburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Mike Emshwiller of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Ashley Emshwiller, and Ryan, Dereck, Travis and Tyler Will; three brothers Steve Delabar of Michigan, Robert Delabar of Kentucky and Tim Delabar of Virginia; four sisters, Mrs. Tom (Betty) Roth and Becky Lauter, both of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Tom (Kathi) Sly and Mrs. Jim (Mary Lee) Smalley, both of Lucasville; a brother-in-law, Jim Hess of Portsmouth; and Mary other relatives and friends.
     He was also preceded in death by a sister Martha Lou Delabar.
     Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Daehler Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with the Rev. John Stattmiller officiating, and interment in Memorial Burial Park.
     Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where a rosary service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday.
     Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Ohio.

     Mrs. Veronica Delabar died at 7 o'clock last Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George W. Schachleiter, of North Third street, at a ripe old age.
     The deceased was a native of Germany, coming to Ironton some twenty years ago. She leaves four sons and four daughters. The children are Mrs. George W. Schachleiter and Miss Caroline Delebar of this city, Mrs. John Heitzman of Chicago, Mrs. John Heffler of Wheelersburg, Ohio, Costine Delebar of Cincinnati, Ohio, Killen Delebar of Washington, D. C., John Delebar of Indian Bay, Ark., and Baston Delebar of Wheelersburg, Ohio.

     A former area man, William H. Delabar, 61, of Columbus, died Monday in Riverside Hospital there.
     He was employed as a labor foreman by Ohio State University.
     Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Beulah Delabar; a son, David of Westerville; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Rockwell of Wheelersburg and Mrs. Lorena Miller of Portsmouth, and a grandson.
     Services are to be conducted Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home in Worthington, with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Columbus.

     This week the family of Stout Barklow received a letter containing the news of the death, in Laytonville Cal., of Mrs. Sarah W. Delaney, on April 16. She was a sister of Stout and Edward Barklow of this city. Mrs. Delaney was born in October, 1827. She married to William Delaney of the old Gaylord rolling mill, in 1849, and afterwards moved to Laytonville, Mendocina county, Cal. The husband has been dead several years. The deceased woman intended leaving home on visit to this city, when she was stricken with paralysis, which soon ended her life. She has four daughters two of whom are unmarried.

Mrs. Neva Douglas Claimed After Extended Illness
     Mrs. Neva Artis Smith Douglas, 73, of Flatwoods, died Thursday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Greenup County, she was a daughter of the late Josh and Miranda Segraves Artis.
     Survivors include two sons, William R. Smith of Raccoon and Harold J. Smith of Flatwoods; three daughters, Miss Lucille Smith, at home, Mrs. Mary Jane Barnes of Brentwood, Calif., Mrs. Eva Oney of Creola, Ohio; one sister Mrs. Sarah Smith of West Russell; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by the Rev. David Melvin. Burial was in Caroline Cemetery.

     Dry Branch--Samuel "Buster" Dummitt, 85, of Dry Branch died at his residence on June 3.
     He was born January 31, 1919.
     He was a construction laborer.
     Mr. Dummitt was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Allie Goddard Dummitt; sons, Gayle and Roy Lester Dummitt; daughter, Patricia Dummitt; brothers Thomas, George and Eugene Dummitt; sister, Imogene Dummitt.
     Survivors include sons: Ron (Kay) Dummitt of Grayson, Arthur (Joyce) Dummitt of McArthur, Ohio, Sam (Calista) Dummitt of Oceola, Ohio, Dale (Dorothy) Dummitt of Olive Hill, Troy Dummitt of Lewis County and Christopher Dummitt of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughters, Pam (Randall) Conn of Dry Branch; 14 grandchildren, one step grandchild, 14 great-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild, three step great-great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 6, at Garrison Funeral Chapel.
     Burial was in the Waring Cemetery in Garrison, with Pastor Delmar Logan, Jr. and Kevin Angel.

     Dammie Mae Duncan, 84, of Mt. Prospect, Ill., a former Fourth Street resident died Saturday at a Highland Park (Ill.) hospital.
     A native of Carter County, Ky., she was a retired alteration seamstress for several businesses and a member of Temple Baptist Church.
     Preceded in death by her husband, Winfield Duncan, on Jan. 18, 1965, she is survived by three sons, Johnny Farmer and James Stafford, both of Portsmouth; and Herman Stafford of Okeechobee, Fla.; two daughters, Loraine Buettner of Okeechobee and Dorothy Duncan of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Lovell Owens of Olive Hill Rt. 2 and Harley Owens of new Philadelphia; a sister, Dellia Sherman of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
     Services were conducted Friday at Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home, with Rev. John Gowdy officiating, and interment in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

     Alva "Pete" Dyer, 81, of New Boston, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 1996, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
     Born, Oct. 16, 1915, in Oklahoma, a son of the late Neal and Alice Clark Dyer, he was a retired steelworker with Empire Detroit Steel and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of New Boston and Western Sun Masonic Lodge.
     He also was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Bennett Dyer, in September 1985; an a sister Gladys Jones.
     He is survived by two daughters, Judy Kegley of Waverly and Nancy Parlin of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren, Bobby Shope of South Webster, Tara Stone of Wheelersburg, Traci Parlin and Randy Parlin of New Boston, Jay Kegley of Mount Vernon, Jill Holmes of Waverly and Jenni Kegley of Cincinnati; a son-in-law, Bob Parlin of New Boston; and seven great-grandchildren.

B. F. Dyer
     B. F. Dyer, 74, of 320 Second Street, employe of Portsmouth works, Wheeling Steel Corp., died at 5:30 a.m. today at Mercy hospital. He was admitted Sunday to the hospital. He suffered a stroke last Friday. Mr. Dyer had been in failing health the last two years.
     Mr. Dyer was born Nov. 16, 1865, at Vanceburg, a son of John and Mary Elizabeth Hamilton Dyer. He came to Portsmouth 33 years ago and was employed at the steel plant for 30 years. He retired two years ago because of ill health. Mr. Dyer was a member of the Christian church and attended the Men's class at First Christian church.
     Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Martha Askin Dyer; three brothers, Neal Dyer of New Boston, James Dyer of Virginia and Elza (sic., Ezra) Dyer; three step-children, Kenneth Askin, Mrs. Elizabeth Pence of Buena Vista pike and Paul Askin, 322 Second street.
     Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Windel-Howland funeral home, with Rev. O. G. Bond officiating in the absence of Rev. Benton B. Miller of the First Christian Church. Burial will be in the Greenlawn cemetery. The body will be at the home of a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Oda Case, 1641 Offnere street, until 11 a.m. Thursday, when it will be taken to the funeral home for services.

     Herbert W. Dyer, 73, of Portsmouth, died Friday, July 26, 1996, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
     Born Nov. 22, 1922, he was the son of the late Austin and Bertha Fultz Dyer. He was retired from the Norfolk and Western Railroad, a World War II Army veteran, a member of the United Transportation Workers of America Union and a member of the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
     Surviving are his wife, Patsy Jean Thurman Dyer whom he married Sept. 30, 1961 in Friendship; two brother and sister-in-laws, Joe and Hazel Fultz of Ozark, Ala, and Walter and Bonnie Dyer of Washington Courthouse; a sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Warren Hawk of Perry, Ga., two sister-in-laws, Pauline Dyer of Washington Courthouse and Helen Thurman of West Union; three brother and sister-in-laws, Judy and Jerry Thurman of West Portsmouth, Joe and Wanda Rice of Hot Spring, Ark.      Joseph Lee Dyer, 37, of North Olmsted, a former Portsmouth resident, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at his residence.
     He was born June 23, 1962 in Portsmouth, a son of Homer C. "Bud" Dyer Jr. and Wavel Wright Dyer. He was he manager of Walgreens in Cleveland. He was a 1980 graduate of Portsmouth High School and also a graduate of Morehead State (Ky.) University.
     He is also survived by a son, Jared Dyer of North Olmsted; a step daughter, Lindsay Henderson of North Olmsted, three brothers, John Alan Dyer of Virginia Beach, Va., and James Brian Dyer of York, S.C.; a sister, Martha Jane Cremeans of Portsmouth.
     Graveside services were held Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999 at Greenlawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Greg Paugh officiating.
     Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
     Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home, Inc., of Portsmouth was in charge of arrangements.

     Service is 1 p.m. Sunday at Dickerson Funeral Home at Vanceburg, Ky., for Luther Dyer, 89, of Emerson, Ky.
     Dyer died Wednesday at the home of a neice, Velva Zornes of Emerson, after a long illness. A native of Vanceburg, he was a retired farmer.
     Surviving are a brother, Wince Dyer of Bucyrus; and several nieces and nephews.
     The Rev. Terry Dean is to officiate at the service, with burial in Hannable Cemetery at Rock Run.
     Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Saturday.

     Vanceburg, Ky. – Mearl Dyer, 73, of Head of Grassy, Vanceburg Rt. 1, died Thursday at a Morehead hospital.
     A Lewis County native, he was a retired employee of Moore & White Lumber Co.
     Preceded in death by his wife Reba White Dyer, in 1978, he is survived by a son, Carl of Vanceburg Rt. 1, four daughters, Avis Sparks of Bucyrus, Ohio, Lillian McRoberts of Vanceburg Rt. 1, Clara Lee Hamilton of Rush Rt. 1 and Doris Harris of Winchester; a brother, Earl of North Carolina; a sister, Ruby Burchett of Vanceburg Rt. 1; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
     He was a member of Laurel Point Christian Holiness Church where services are planned at 2 p.m. Saturday, with Rev. Clifford Muse officiating, and burial in Morgan Cemetery.

     South Shore, Ky. – Paul Dyer, 53, of South Shore, Route 1, died Thursday in Mercy Hospital form an apparent hear attack.
     He was a native of Greenup County and an employee of the Chessie System.
     His wife, Katherine Patton Dyer, died in June.
     He is survived by two sons, Rocky Dyer of Portsmouth and an Carl Forrest Dyer of South Shore Route 1; a daughter Joelene Distel of West Portsmouth, Ohio; a brother Wayne Dyer of South Shore Route 1; four sisters, Thelma Karcher of South Shore Route 1, Bernice Dyer and Inez Martin of Portsmouth and Wanda Dyer of Ashland; and three grandchildren.
     Service is to be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Roberson Funeral Home here, with the Rev. Ben Wadkins officiating, and burial in Siloam Cemetery.
     Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday and until the service Sunday at the funeral home.

Roscoe Dyer
     Vanceburg, Ky. – Relatives have received word of the death of Roscoe Dyer, 48, in Springfield, Ohio.
     Mr. Dyer died in Springfield of injuries received in an accident Tuesday.
     He was born Aug. 20, 1910 in Rowan Co., Ky., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Dyer and was a construction worker.
     Surviving are a wife, Mrs. Opal Carrington Dyer, eight sons, Orville, of Bucyrus, Ohio, James A. of South Portsmouth, Ky., Roscoe Jr., Russell A., Filliam, Randall D., Woodrow C. and Roy K. of Springfield, Ohio, and two daughters, Mrs. Bonnie R. Dyer and Barbara M. Dyer at home.
     Also surviving are two brothers, Jim of Greenup and Clarence of Rock Run, Ky., and three sisters, Mrs. Veda Butler of Mansfield, Ohio, Mrs. Lonnie Moore and Mrs. Chloe Armstrong of Vanceburg.
     Funeral services are to be held in Town Branch Church Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Claude Staggs, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Evans Cemetery under the direction of Plummer Funeral Home.

Roscoe Dyer Jr., 64, Army veteran
     Roscoe Dyer Jr., 64, of Vanceburg, Ky., died Tuesday March 11, 1997, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
     Born Dec. 19, 1932, in Rock Run, Ky., a son of the lated Roscoe Dyer and Minnie Armstrong Dyer, he was a Korean War Army veteran and a construckton worker and heavy equiptment operatory. He attended the Pentecostal Chruch of Rock Run, Ky.
     Surviving are his wife, Gladys Nolen Dyer; three sons, Mickle W. Dyer of Reynoldsburg and Roger D. Dyer and Elmer Junior Dyer both of Vanceburg; a daughter, Carolyn Dyer Plank of Vanceburg; five brothers, Orville Dyer and Clifford Dyer, both of Vanceburg, Russell Dyer of Morehead, Ky.,m and Woody Dyer and Jimmy Dyer both of Paisley, Fla.; two sisters, Bonnie Gilaspy of Lake Santee, Ind., and Barbara Butler of Knightstown, Ind.; 11 grandchilren; and four great-grandchildren.
     He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Kirby and Randall Dyer; a daughter-in-law and a grandson.
     Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg, Ky., with the Rev. Harold Eugene Evans officiationg,a nd interment in Hannable Cemetery at Rock Run.

Thomas Dyer
    
Thomas Dyer, 73, retired farmer and native of Lewis co., Ky., passed away Sunday at 3:25 a.m. at the home of a son, Allie Dyer, Columbus. He had been ill the last year of a heart ailment. Mr. Dyer had made his home with a daughter Mrs. Virgie Shepherd of Friendship, prior to his illness.
     He was born Oct. 5, 1871, a son of Francis and Mary Dyer, who preceded him in death. He came to Ohio 25 years ago and was a member of the Baptist church on Stony Run. He was married 50 years ago to Elizabeth Ash, who died Feb. 7, 1940.
     Besides his son and daughter, he leaves these other children: Lewis Dyer, Mrs. Isabel Moore, John Dyer, Lee Dyer, all of Columbus, Austin Dyer of Friendship and Mrs. Ethel Hackworth of Rainelle, Va. Also surviving are two brothers, John Dyer and William Dyer of Vanceburg. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
     The body will be brought Tuesday morning to the home of Mrs. Shepherd on Odle Creek, near Friendship. Funeral services will be conducted at 2: p.m. Wednesday at Friendship Methodist church.
