VAN BIBBER PIONEERS E-NEWSLETTER Vol. 8 No. 1
Van Bibber Title

A Mother’s Love Is Like A Rose, Each Passing Day It Grows
And Grows.

Vol. 8, No. 5
April 2006

That’s right! It’s Mother’s Day. And this Newsletter is dedicated to the Mother’s of our enormous family.

To start this newsletter out, I would like to make some much needed corrections. Someone had sent me some photos to publish and had given the wrong information about them.

################

Patty,

The Stover family photos were a surprise when I opened the newsletter this morning.  The first photo is of Mary Pontsler Stover, and the photo beside of it was an old metal photo which someone in the family took and made the first photo from. Below Mary is her son and my grandfather, Joseph Stover. Even though he was in Oklahoma for a short time in his early life, he lived and died in Putnam County, WV. The photo beside of him is his daughter/my mother, Bertha Stover Jividen.

Joseph Stover                                                           Bertha Stover Jividen

Virginia Dare Corns, daughter of Eva Stover Corns and grand daughter of Mary Pontsler Stover. Eva was a daughter of Mary Pontsler Stover and sister to Joseph Stover.

Mary’s parents were Joseph and Martha Jane Walker Pontsler. Joseph’s parents were Serick and Elinor Walkinshaw Pontsler, who were also the parents of Elinor Pontsler who married Clark Tillis, who was the son of Richard Tillis and Elizabeth Greenlee VanBibber. This means that Mary Pontsler was really not a member of the VanBibber family, just in and around the family.

I hope this helps clear up the photos and connections.

Thanks for all your hard work…I know it is not easy to put out a newsletter like that.

Stanton Bailes and Laurana Higginbotham-Bailes with my grandfather, George Bailes on my great grandmother’s lap.
In the back we believe is Bertie Bailes Birkshire, half sister of my grandfather. We are still researching this. She was a lot older than my grandfather and his brothers. We are not sure if she was a daughter from a first marriage of Laurana or Stanton?

Serrick Pontsler, father of Elinor Pontsler Tillis, 1st wife of Clark "Click" Tillis, grandfather of Rebecca Tillis-Tucker, great grandfather of Enith Tucker-Bailes.

Sherman, Rebecca Tillis Tucker and family. The 2 in the back row
are my grandparents, George and Enith Tucker Bailes (Bails).

Eleanor Pontsler Tillis Clark "Click" Tillis

(Seated): Rebecca Tillis Tucker, daughter of Clark and
Eleanor, with my grandmother Enith on her lap.
At this time, we are unsure as to the ID of the couple in
the back.

Hello,

I have always enjoyed reading about my family. I am interested in learning if anyone knows much about the VanBibber man who fought in the Revolutionary War. I was just hoping that it was in my line since I am trying to get into the DAR, and can’t find all of the records that I need for two of my lines. This might be a better hope.

Thanks so much for taking over the job of editor!

Don’t forget! Father’s Day is in June!

I thought I should let everyone know that I am in the process of moving to a new home.

Please send any news articles and/or photos to me at my Yahoo address.

I will be able to access everything, and still be able to work on the upcoming newsletter.
