Nathaniel Bridges

Nathaniel "Nat" S. Bridges was born 21 Jul 1851 in Coweta County, GA.  In the 1880 Census, Nathaniel is in the household of S. S. Thornton in  Stephenville, Erath County, Texas at age 38.  His occupation is listed as farming.  On 18 July 1880, Nat married Maggie or Mattie Phillips in Erath County, Texas.  I have found several references to Nat Bridges in newspaper abstracts from Erath County in 1899.  One of these lists Nat as "Erath's popular stockman".  Another from Jan 4, 1900 lists G  E Toliver, Nat Bridges and Fayette Miller as attending court in Colorado City as witnesses in a murder case.  There are several letters written by Nat and Maggie between 1900 and 1910 to his family in Georgia that suggest he fell on hard times during this period and contemplated going to the New Territory.  In the 1900 Census, Nat and Maggie (Mattie) are listed in Stephenville, Erath County, Texas  with the following children, Louis Bridges, b. Nov. 1885, Texas; Kit Bridges, b. April 1890, Texas; Mary Lee Bridges, b. Oct 1892, Texas and Lena Bridges, b. November 1894 in Texas.  Nat's mother in law, Mary E. Phillips is listed in the household also at age 65, born Nov 1834 in Georgia. I have a letter written by Nat Bridges to his sister, Mollie Bridges McLean on 13 Jan 1909 from Plateau, New Mexico.  I have not been able to find him on the 1910 census at this time but have references to several land transactions in Roosevelt County, New Mexico around this time period.  Plateau was only a town for a few short years but I have learned this was in the area of Elida, New Mexico.  There is a land grant to Nathaniel in 1920 from the Roswell Land Patent office.

Egbert H. Bridges was born 10 Dec 1853 in Georgia.  He was in Plateau, New Mexico on 13 Jan 1909 with his brother, Nathaniel.

North born in Coweta County in 1875.  She died in 1928 in Coweta County, Ga.  Nancy's son, John T. North died in Atlanta, Fulton County, Ga on 19 Mar 1941.

Benjamin Hill Bridges

Benjamin Hill Bridges was born 12 Dec 1858 in Coweta County, Georgia.  His wife's name was Eliza Sanora Bridges, she was the daughter of William Jasper Bridges and Amariah Helen Copeland. Eliza was born  23 Nov 1858 in Attalla county, Mississippi and died there on 09 October 1891. They had two sons, Tommy b. 9 Oct 1891 , d. 09 Dec 1891 and Newton Jasper, b. 26 Dec 1887 in McCool, Attalla County, Mississippi.  Benjamin Hill Bridges died on  15 Mar 1929.  The Georgia Death Index lists his death as occurring in Georgia but he is buried in Attalla County, Mississippi.  The dates of the death's in Georgia and Mississippi match so I believe he may have died in Georgia and his body was sent to Mississippi for burial.   I have a letter stating that Ben was married around 1905 and in Coweta County, Ga in 1905 a Benjamin Hill Bridges married a Mrs. Lilla Bridges.   Mrs. Lilla Bridges was the widow of Edgar Winston Bridges and her maiden name was Lilla Harriett Gay.  She and Ben are enumerated in the 1920 Coweta County, Ga census.  She is there in the 1930 census and died in 1949 in Coweta County, Ga.
