Joseph Blumenfeld
[1791 -18??]
Joseph Blumenfeld was the oldest son of Simon Isaak Blumenfeld. Joseph Blumenfeld
[born in Mittau Kurland] lived in Hamburg and was buried there in the Jewish
cemetery. (A picture of Joseph is not at hand.)
The children of Joseph Blumenfeld were Mendel called Martin, Lea Jente, Sara.
Mendel Blumenfeld
[22 Mar 1828 - 14 Jan 1886]
Mendel was born in Milan on March 22, 1828. He married Julie Meyer from Hamburg
whose children were recorded in the following register of birth. After the death of his wife Julie born Meyer, Mendel married a second time to Henrietta Baum from Alzei-Frankfort whose children are also listed below. Mendel died in 1881 and was buried next to his first wife Julie in the Grindel Jewish cemetery. In 1937, by order of the Nazi regime, this cemetery was completely destroyed. The Jewish community informed the next of kin where the buried relatives lay. The exhumation and transportation from Grindel [cemetery] to the Ohlsdorf cemetery took place in the presence of [Mendel's] son Julius Blumenfeld and nephews Dr. Martin Klein and Dr. Moritz Klein on 13 April 1937.
In 1906, the following birth register written by my father [Mendel Blumenfeld] ion the inner side of a Hebrew book was found by accident in a small synagogue in Hamburg and a member of the Hecksler family forwarded it to my address.

Named after my holy grandmother.
Recha born 5 march 1862 at two in the morning
"May you continually be given luck, joy and peace."
Julius born 21 June 1863 at three o'clock in the afternoon
Horrible naming him after his own mother Julie who death snatched away five
days later. On the 28th, two hours later his circumcision would ensue by outrageous
servants whose mistress died in confinement at the age of 31. This horrible
wound, never curable, scared away every daily joy of mine.
"May the good offices of this pious soul provide an audience in heaven
for the survivors."
At two in the morning of 2 September 1866, my dear wife Henriette Blumenfeld
born Baum presented me with the birth of our sweet son Natorn.
"May happy days come with this birth."
Meyer born 16 May 1868 at 12 o'clock in the evening.
"May my strength never flag for his welfare."
May Salo and Ernestine Silbermann the venerable parents of Ida Blumenfeld born
Silbermann be continually remembered with love!

Ruth born 14 June 1909 at 30 Kronprinzen Ufer in Berlin on the 40th birthday of her mother during Shavu'ot. Since the other children already were given the names of their ancestors and knowing the Bible book "Ruth" will be read in all the synagogues on this festival, therefore our newborn received the name of her great ancestor, the grandmother of King David and thus the ancestor of the coming Messiah!
Meanwhile the time came where the children endeavored to establish their own
family life.

Rahel Neumann born in Tel Aviv on 8 May 1938.
Salo Goldstone
Salo Goldstone married Ruth Blumenfeld in London on 25 March 1934. Their children are:
Louise Goldstone born in London on 22 December 1935.
Leslie Goldstone born in London on 28 October 1939.
Emigration
The severe persecution of the Jews that started in 1933 led to our resolution to make plans to emigrate. The first step was made by Erich Neumann in the company of his wife - our Julie and their Micha, who moved their residence to Tel Aviv in Palestine in the year [not stated]. Our son Martin carried out his emigration in the summer of 1938. On the 10th of September 1938 he emigrated from Germany in the company of his wife and their son Walter and moved his home to Sydney (Australia).. Martin could not undertake the packing and export of his furniture himself since he already had departed with his family, so I arranged the loading of the goods to Hamburg for further forwarding by ship with an employee of an export agency. In December 1938, through the remarkable efforts of our daughter Ruth [nee Blumenfeld] Goldstein in London, we received our visa granting permission [to enter England]. We made arrangements to dissolve our 45 year old household in Berlin, entering London on the 17th of March 1939. After we were brought here through the efforts of our children Salo and Ruth Goldstone, with even more persistent efforts, Ruth succeeded in fetching our other children. (Not without basis did she carry the name Ruth). We awaited our daughter Charlotte with great longing, who also arrived here on 27th of April 1939. Soon after our happiness became complete when our son Paul and his wife Charlotte arrived on 9th June 1939. Now we were united again. With this our emigration from our native land was completed. Soon may all of our children find a new home granted to them and their descendents and earn citizenship in a land to which they can belong with love.
