Hi! _So glad to have heard from you, at long last! The Fleming sur-name is certainly a mystery, but perhaps we can get to the bottom of this, eventually. _Records that we obtained via a patron of the Latter Day Saints, we received photo copies of marriage and christening records. On June 19, 1843, Margaret Brunker (dau. of George & spouse whose maiden name was Graham) was christened at St. Marlebone, All Souls (London) I suspect that George's first wife died, because these records indicated at a later date, he married Sarah Godbold on Aug. 19, 1847, at St. Pancras, Old Church, County of Middlesex (northern London). _A copy of their marriage certificate was received, and here it indicated that George Brunker and Sarah Godbold were of full age, he was a batchelor & jeweler by profession. His father's name was also George who was a basketmaker. Sarah was listed as a spinster, whose father was Shadrach Godbold, a farmer. _Between their marriage date in 1847 and the New York Census of July 24, 1850, in the town of Eden, County of Erie, George and Sarah Brunker were listed, along with children. George was 34 yrs, Sarah 27, and children Margaret, 9yrs, JAMES, 8yrs, and George was 1. (to me, this clearly indicates that Margaret and James were the first born of George & Ms. Graham, as they were born 4 & 5 yrs before George & Sarah were married. That's the mystery where the name Fleming comes in!) Margaret and James were listed as having been born in England. _By the June 23, 1860 census, the Brunkers had moved to the Town of Utica, Winnebago County, Wisconsin. Margaret was listed as age 18, and James was no longer on the census records as living with the family. Other children listed were George, 11, Mary, 10, William, 8, (William is Alan's Great-Grandpa) Josephine, 6, Rueben, 4, and Beula, age 2. George Sr. was listed as having been born in Ireland, Sarah in England, Margaret in England, and all the other children but Beula were born in N.Y., and she, in Wis. _The family graves are located in Omro Junction cemetary, quite near Oshkosh, Wis. in Winnebago Co. _The grave marker is sizable, and is perhaps between 5 & 6 ft. tall. The engravings are wearing away, but as of a few yrs. ago, still readable. Reuben & Beula died at ages 26 & 28, & are buried with Sarah who died in 1875 & George, in 1890. _We were always so curious about what had happened to James. We wondered if he died in childhood in NY, or if he had gone off to school or to service. Alan's Grandmother Brunker always spoke of Brunker family members having moved to Iowa, and because of poor travel & communication conditions _of the time, they lost touch with each other. (This was in re: to her father-in law, William's brothers) _Alan tells me that I've gone on for too long, so I'll close, hoping to hear from you again! _Kathy Brunker __Kathy was under the impression that the Fleming children were George Brunkers, but they belonged to Sarah Godbold, from another marriage. This is what I believe. B.

George and Sarah had the following children:

+ 4 M ii. William BRUNKER was born on 1 Apr 1852. He died on 17 Feb 1919.

      5 F iii. Margaret Fleming BRUNKER .

6 M iv. James Edward Fleming BRUNKER .

      7 M v. George BRUNKER .

    Hi Bobbi!
Thanks for referal re: Richard Von Briesen. He was correct in some of his information about Francis Padelford. She was married to William Brunker, but unfortunately died in childbirth along with their child, in 1875. The poor fellow lost his wife, child and Mother, Sarah Godbold Brunker in the same year. I think I mentioned to you that he was inconsolable for years over this loss, and he was dubbed "Wid" (shortened form of widower) for the rest of his life. He eventually remarried about 10 years after the death of Francis, to Alta Carley. There was no continuation of the Bunker line through Francis, but through William and Alta.
Richard Von Briesen is a cousin of a man who is married to a Padleford decendant, so I guess that's how the connection was made. William was born in Erie County, N.Y. and came to Wis. with his family in the late 1850's. I see Francis was born Erie Co. N.Y., so the families must have been friends to have both traveled to Wis. and both resettled in the same Omro, Wis. area. He is going to give his cousin's wife the info, so maybe we'll hear from her, and maybe no. At least it was a connection with the family name and mysteries. Hope to hear from you and, thanks again! Kathy

    Dear Roberta, Alan & Kathy,
I received your correspondence with my husband's cousin, Dick. As he wrote you, I have a connection to Frances Padelford through my grandfather, Sedate Irving Darrow. His mother, Lillian, was the daughter of Sedate D., granddaughter of Sedate A. and a cousin to Frances, who was the daughter of John R. Which would make her my third cousin once removed, I think. We do have a significant amount of information about the Padelfords if you are interested in it. However, given that Frances and William's child died, and that you are related to William through his second wife, it would seem that a relationship exists for Alan and Roberta. Best I figure it Alan and Roberta are third degree "half" cousins. Sorry not to have found a more direct relationship. However, I am curious about the relatives in and around Portage County because my father grew up in Stevens Point, as did his father and several aunts/uncles. It will be easier for Ted to access those files, so we'll be in touch. Also noticed that Kathy grew up in WI Rapids. Did you know any Duggans? The youngest would have been about 9 years older than you, a set of twins, Jon & Joan? We still have a mystery, though. Who actually was interested in George Brunker? It wasn't my query. Was it yours Roberta? Thanks for writing, Peggy
