OBITUARY WHITTIER REGISTER Nov. 17 1893 Whittier, Ca. Mary E. Doup was born of Lutheran parents in Gross Beverau, Germany, Aug. 6th 1818. She came to America at the age of twelve years and lived in Knox Co. Ohio, until 1843 when, with her husband Allen Lawhead, she moved to Iowa. To them were born ten childrenm five of whom with her husband have passed over the river. Mrs. Lawhead united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1853, of which she was a consistent member until Nov. 4th 1893, when she quietly and unconsciously rose to join the church triumpant. Her two years spent in the delightful climate of Whittier, at the residence of her son G.C. Lawhead, have impressed all who have become acquainted with her with strength of her faith, the joys that belong to a Christian life and a well grounded hope of future blessedness. During her long sickness, no conplaining words escaped her lips. She lived and died as becometh a Christian.
