John McCONNELL
First Generation
1. John MCCONNELL was born in 1763 in Virginia. He died on 6 Jan 1847 in Muncie, Delaware, Indiana. He was buried in Beech Grove Cem. Muncie, Indiana.
John served in the Revolutionary War as a wagoneer, and was shot in the thigh. He was also
left-handed.
John married Barbara BOWMAN . Barbara was born in 1775 in Virginia. She died on 12 Dec 1838 in Muncie, Delaware, Indiana. She was buried in Beech Grove Cem. Muncie, Indiana. Of German Descent.
John and Barbara had the following children:

3 M ii. William MCCONNELL was born on 10 Apr 1801 in Scioto Co, Ohio. He died on 23 Jan 1878 in Delaware Co., Indiana.
Came to Delaware County, Indiana in 1832 and entered 80 acres ofland in
section 20, township 20, range 10, and the followingyear moved from Ohio to
his new home, in what was then an almost unbroken wilderness. He lived
upon this place the greater part of his remaining life, and in his declining years
moved to Muncie, where his death occurred in 1878. On moving to this county
the present prosperous city of Muncie was but a mere hamlet of a few
inhabitants, and surrounding the village was adense forest, through which wild
animals and the scarecely less wild Indian roamed at pleasure. Mr. McConnell
added to his original purchase from time to time, and became the possessor of
160 acres of valuable land, also some good town property. He was a man of
local prominence, popular with his friends and neighbors, and served as
justice of the peace for a number of years. His wife was a member of the
Methodist Episcopal church,and died on the 26th day of February, 1863.

I am collecting all records for the Cox, Hutton, McConnell, and Wood families that were early
settlers of Steady Run Township, Keokuk County, Iowa in the 1840s. I have listed their
ancestors and descendants as I have found the information.

Moses married Ruth S. HUTTON daughter of William HUTTON and Elizabeth STORER on 1 Feb 1838 in Muncie, Delaware, Indiana. Ruth was born on 20 Jul 1819 in Scioto Co., Ohio. She died on 18 Apr 1911 in Sigourney, Keokuk, Iowa. She was buried in Mt. Zion Cem. Keokuk,Iowa.
Note: A number of relatives and neighbors of Mrs. Ruth McConnell gathered at her home, four
miles north-east of Martinsburg,Thursday, to celebrate her eightieth birthday. The day
was pleasantly spent, dinner and ice cream being served on the lawn from the well filled baskets
brought by the guests. In the afternoon the guests were entertained with music and speeches
on the graphophone and short talks by some of those present. Mrs.McConnell recieved a
number of nice presents._Mrs. McConnell is one of the early settlers of the county,having come
here in the fall of 1839, settling in Brushy Bend,Richland township. She removed to Steady Run
township in thespring of 1843, and has resided there ever since. Those present were:__Mr. and

Julia married Jason Gleason WILKINSON son of Solomon Scribner WILKINSON and Charlotte J. PACKARD on 25 Apr 1855. Jason was born on 7 Dec 1830 in Ohio. He died on 14 Dec 1906 in Bethany, Missouri. He was buried on 16 Dec 1906 in Dale Cem., Harrison, Missouri.
