Words of Grace

Dear Family,

I started this genealogical journey when I was 13 years old, speaking to family members, and struggling to learn who I was and where I came from. This is something that most teenagers do at some point, but my curiosities bloomed into a full-blown Taurean need to write it all down. Soon, notes and scribbles became a mess of interconnecting lines that led from one page to another.

I had discovered my family tree; or at least small branches of it.

As I got older, and I was able to understand and explore more, I made some wonderful discoveries. My Grandmother Grace's desire to rediscover her Native American heritage sparked a fire that has not been lost with her passing. Her dream lives on in me, and I 'will' solve the mystery of our family 'Cherokee Connection'. Keep an eye out here for updates; what I discover will be posted here, and those who desire to do so, will hopefully have the opportunity to register once again as a part of the Cherokee Nation.

When I got married to my most wonderful husband Michael, my Family Tree project blossomed once more. On a wing and prayer, to his family elders I flew. Little did I know what I was in for when his Father, George, and his Grandfather, 'HiButch', loaned me every piece of family history they had. Many hours, pencils, and megabytes later, I finally had it all organized. Whew!

This site and family tree, are dedicated to and consist of, all those individuals who are in some way related to me; be it by blood, marriage, Law, or otherwise. May there be many more to come, as the wonders of the Internet give us the opportunity to find those that we never knew existed, and helps to reunite those who have stayed too far a part, for far to long.

Although I do have some more information and photos that I can add to the Family Tree, the clock on Christmas was ticking down fast, and I had to find a stopping point. Please forgive me if there is some current information missing on living individuals, I had to use what I had on hand so that I didn't end up spoiling the Family Christmas surprise that I had planned. Frankly, I have been so busy researching the 'past' that my 'current' is lacking. Don't let me get away with it though; make my mailbox explode! I'll add all I can now that my proverbial 'cat', is out of the bag! Please, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any more information that you would like included. The more information, photos, stories, and background we have, the more complete our Family History will be. Remember, this is not only going to assure that the Generations after us know their ancestors, but YOU just might have the key to mending a broken branch in our collective tree!

I also wanted to mention that in sharing this with all of you, I am striving to keep as much privacy for the living as possible. This World has become a scary place, where you just can't be too careful. To that end, for any living, or presumed living individual that I have listed in the Family Tree, the birth city, birth year, marriage city, and marriage year, have been removed from each individual's information. I would like to keep the birth day and month listed so that we can have a family calendar available here on the web site. That way, we can keep track and help celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. But, if you are listed as a Family Member here, and you see anything within your information that you do 'not' want listed, please let me know and I will remove it. This goes also for those deceased individuals whom you knew well. If I have listed some information that you feel they would not want public, you will have to let me know. I won't know the "do's and don'ts" unless someone tells me.

While I am on the subject of no-nos. I will NOT be posting any current photos of under-aged family members. We must protect our children, so please send those 'new baby' and school photos if you like, but they will not be posted on the web site until they are visually outdated! However, I am keeping a separate family tree file, with all dates, names, information, and research listed. Sometime in the future, I will be making this file available on CD-ROM, complete with any photos that I have, for any family member who would wish to have one. There will be more on this, as it becomes available.

Your best course of action at this point? Seek and ye shall find! Talk to your Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and any Elder of your immediate family! They have the experiences, stories, and memories that we do not want to lose forever! Talk to them; let them know that you care about their life and want to pass it down so that your children's children do not have to say, "What was so-and-so's name Mommy? Oh, okay." and it just becomes another long list of names in their head, that have no faces or stories to make that ancestor human to them. Our forefathers deserve better, and our children do to!

With that, and with much love, I'll keep working!
