Ira Wilder Allen - Death Notice

July 5, 1827 - February 9, 1912

Ira Wilder Allen died in Chicago on Friday, February 9, 1912. He was a widely known educator and for eighteen years had been the head of the Allen Academy in Chicago. According to this death notice, he closed the academy when he retired in 1892. Allen was a graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, NY. The notice indicates that Ira W. Allen had founded the Union Christian College in Indiana, and at one time was head of Lake Forest University.
