Graves used for burial of some members of the
John Francis Abbott and Antoinette (Schreiber) Abbott family
as well as some members of the George Leo King and Lillian M. (Abbott) King family

Jameson Francis Abbott purchased two graves at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx when Agnes Abbott died as a young girl on September 30, 1926. A copy of the receipt (front and back) showing payment of $100.00 for the graves is shown below. Dated October 3, 1926, the date of Agnes Abbott's burial, it is made out to Jameson Abbott. J. M. Mulligan, the undertaker used for many of the family burials, also paid $10.00 on the same day for the interment of Agnes, which is documented by a burial receipt issued by the cemetery superintendent.

There are several dated rubber stamps with handwritten markings on the back of the purchase receipt for graves 44 and 45. They correspond to burials of other individuals from the Abbott and King families. The stamp dated October 18, 1928, is related to the burial of Jameson Francis Abbott. There also is a separate receipt showing that J.M. Mulligan paid a $20.00 burial fee to the cemetery on October 18, 1928 for Jameson's interment. Antoinette (Schreiber) Abbott's burial is represented by the stamp dated November 4, 1930. A receipt indicating payment to St. Raymond's Cemetery for her burial is dated October 4, 1930. Another marking, inexplicably dated May 6,1934, is for Jameson and Antoinette Abbott's daughter Cecilia Abbott, who was interrred May 6, 1933 (age 16), according to a separate burial receipt issued to the undertaker.

The other two dated stamps pertain to burials for members of the King family, who are related to the Abbott family by the marriage of Lilliam M. Abbott to George Leo King. The 1949 stamp is associated with the burial of Lillian (Abbott) King's husband, George Leo King. He was buried at St. Raymond's Cemetery in one of the Abbott family graves on November 26, 1949. And, the last marking is for Lillian's and George's baby boy, Eugene King, who was buried at the age of 3 days on June 23, 1950.

Although the deed for the two graves probably originally provided for the burial of only six individuals, there are actually seven people interred there. Because Eugene King was a tiny three-day old infant when he died, it would appear that the cemetery determined that there was enough space to accommodate the interment of Lilliam M. (Abbott) King in grave 44 when she died in 1977. A letter from St. Raymond's Cemetery, dated October 4, 1999, provides a listing of all the burials in graves 44 and 45.
