The story mentions that Bernadette Hodges' daughter, the former Maxine Hodges, had been married to "the late sports promoter Tex Rickard," and that Mrs. Rickard was in Chicago at the time of her mother's death. We also learn that Maxine Rickard had been living in Queens, NY, after Tex's death and that her "latest address" had been 3370 N. 165th Street in Flushing, New York.

Throughout the obituary, including the headline, Bernadette is referred to as "Bernette Hodges." This is the only reference to her as Bernette that I'm aware of, and her birth certificate indicates that her name was Bernadette Delaney. It is possible that she went by the nickname Bernette. On the other hand, there is the possibility that the name is simply a reporting error, either on the part of an informant or the wire service and newspaper reporters. My father, Franklyn Lowery Delaney, remembered her as Bernadette. ¹
