Wedding Plans of

Maxine Rickard

and

Thomas A. Gill

A small news item from the Los Angeles Times on July 24, 1936, shown in the image on this page, is headlined "Tex Rickard's Widow to Wed." It quotes The Chicago American in announcing that "Mrs. Maxine Rickard, widow of George L. (Tex) Rickard, sports promoter, would be married Saturday to Thomas A. Gill, Chicago Broker." 1 The article incorrectly dates Maxine's first marriage, to Tex Rickard, to 1920 and also incorrectly states that they had been married in New York City. Tex and Maxine Rickard were married in 1926 in Lewisburg, West Virginia.

A related Los Angeles Times article, two days later, provided more details about the marriage as well as a picture of the couple.

1 Maxine (Hodges) Rickard was the daughter of Bernadette Marie (Delaney) Hodges and Jesse Thomas Hodges.
