Reese Family Plot Marker in New Cumberland Cemetery, New Cumberland, Ohio

Here are some obituaries and notices of  death that family members have given to me through the years and also cousins have found in their research. These are not in any specific order and are transcribed as written. Source is given when known.

Abram Reese d. March 2, 1886 - Abram Reese, a prominent and much respected citizen of Frankstown Township, died at his home at Reese's Station, on the Williamsburg branch railroad about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, after a lingering illness. Death was chiefly due to paralysis, though injuries received by a fall in July 1883 contributed there too.

Abram Reese was born in Logan Township, near where the city of Altoona is located, in the year 1808 and spent the greater part of this life in this vicinity. About twenty years ago he removed to Frankstown Township where he remained an honored citizen until the moment of his death. Some nine or ten years ago premonitory symptoms of paralysis appeared and the disease gradually but surely progressed. Mr. Reese was able to get about however, making frequent visits to Holidaysburg and other places, until as above stated in July 1883 he was severely injured by a fall. From that time until his death he was confined to his bed.

Mr. Reese was twice married. Fifty years ago or more, he was married to Miss Katie Meyers, by whom he became the father of several children, eight of whom survive. His wife died and afterwards he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Koch, who became the mother of a son who survives to mourn with his Mother the loss of a husband and father. The surviving children are, Mrs. Elizabeth Morgan, Mrs. Martha McCaulley, Mrs. Elizabeth Figart, Mrs. Mary Leamer all of whom reside in Logan Township. Elijah, Shadrach, and David all residing in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, Mrs. Mollie Glunt of Loydsville, and William Sherman, the latter residing at home.

The subject of this notice was a quiet, unobtrusive citizen, having the respect of all who knew him. Politically he was a believer in the principles of the Democratic Party, and until his health failed him was frequently a delegate to the democratic county conventions and a member of the county committee of that party. In religion he was a devout adherent of the Baptist faith, having been among the first Baptists of this section. For about 56 years he was a faithful follower of the precepts of the Christian religion.

In all the relations of life he did well his part. He was a faithful husband and a kind Father. As a neighbor he was courteous and obliging, as a friend steadfast and true, as a citizen without stain and without reproach. He didn't make a great deal of noise in the world; that wasn't his way. But he was a good man and the citizens of Frankstown Township will mourn his death. Source: Altoona Tribune March 3, 1886
