Wilkens Descendants in America

My maternal great great grandmother was Catherine Elizabeth Wilkens born March 8, 1857 in Visbek Germany and died December 2, 1947 in Newport, Campbell Co., KY. She married her first husband, Diederich (Richard) Gerhard Hellmann July 24 1880 in Goldenstedt, Germany. Diederich came to America first, settling in Covington, Kenton Co., KY where he had relatives who had come over before him. Kate soon followed and arrived in Baltimore on the ship OHIO June 9, 1883 with her two young sons and sister Elizabeth Wilkens.

After studying the microfilm of St. Vitus Kathilische Kirche, in Visbek, Amt. Vechta, Germany and finding her baptism and those of her siblings, along with other research, I realized that Kate had a brother George Wilkens who had settled in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH by 1880, and a sister Francis, with their mother Anna Freese Wilkens arrived in Baltimore September 11, 1884 and settled in Cincinnati.

I hope to include on these pages, my research of the descendants of Conrad Heinrich Wilkens and Anna Maria Freese in America and their ancestors in Germany to share with other descendants.
