BOYT/E - BOYET/T/E NEWSLETTER

Volume I, Number 3                                  July/Aug/Sept 1985

Published and edited by Wendy L. Elliott, C. G., 4808 E. Garland St., Anaheim, CA 92807

EDITOR'S MESSAGE

Due to the breakdown of my computer and therefore the word processing system which is used to produce the Newsletter, this third issue is two weeks late.  please understand and endure the waiting patiently, if it should ever happen again.

This issue will include many of the early census records which have been compiled by the editor.  If you have discovered additional entries for the various states and census years, it would be appreciated if you can share these with the editor for future publications.

Because of the breakdown of the computer, the North Carolina Revolutionary War Service Vouchers will be concluded in the fourth issue rather than this the third.

QUERIES

As many queries as  submitted for the BOYT/E - BOYET/T/TE  NEWSLETTER will be published until the position is  met  where there are too many for each  issue.  At the  point that too  many are  being  received, a notice  will appear in the NEWSLETTER and further queries will be pub1ished under the initial policy of four per subscription per year.

NOTES FROM SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA

William James H. BOYETT, who had served as a private during the Civil War in Company D, of the fourteenth  Regiment, Kentucky Cavalry, died  9 March  1923 in San  Diego, California.  He  was born  in  1845 probably  in  Tennessee.   He enlisted in  1861 in  Tennessee and  was discharged in 1865.

William  James H. BOYETT  married  Lucinda  A. ------ who  died probably in San Diego, California on 10 February 1933.  They had a daughter Mrs. Jesse D. or B. CRIPPEN who lived in East San Diego.

The Civil War  veteran and his  wife are buried in  the Stonewall Jackson Plot of the  Mt. Hope  Cemetery in San Diego, CA.    A government headstone was  placed on the veteran’s grave by the Stonewall Jackson Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1936. A headstone for the wife was placed by the same group on 11 Mar 1936.

5 June 1985

On page 12 of  Volume I, Number 2 of  this  Newsletter  the  extracted will of William BOYET of Barnwell  District, SC was printed.  This was followed by  the editor’s  opinion  "From a deed  between John  DYAS of Mobile Co.,  AL  dated 19 Apr 1831  (recorded in  Book S, page 159) to Josiah BOYT of  Barnwell  District, SC,  and the will as found  above, one  may guess that Winniferd (BOYIT) DYES/DYAS and  husband had moved from Barnwell  Co., SC to  Mobile  Co.,  AL, and  that  John  DYAS  of Mobile,  AL was the son-in-law  of  the  William BOYIT whose will  is given above."

A reader, Marion W. Hester,  M.D., P.A. of  Lakeland, FL, has  written to correct the editor's wrong assumption.

He explained that Winnifred  (BOYET) DYESS was the daughter of William BOYET of Barnwell District, SC, but  she  married  Henry BYESS who was born  in 1755.  They  raised  a family in Ware  Co.,  GA.  Dr.  Hester reports that this family history was  published  in Husford's Pioneers of Wiregrass,  Georgia, Volume 2, on page  100.   Dr. Hester adds that the  John DYESS of Mobile Co., AL in  1831 was a different person, but probably was from the same family.
